Forum > North American Pro League > USA Conference > South Otto vs. OTR... A history lesson...

I wanted to post this before our match-up, but my good friend Jed thought I needed a brief reprise from posting... I posted this in the OTR forums though, and thought some of you might possibly be interested. If not, fuck yourself anyway?

We have a lot of agents here that have zero clue of just how large of a win that was for us...

South Otto started out in USA BBB 1 west... So did OTR. All the way back in season 2... OTR made it to the West championship game in season 2 but lost to the Oklahoma Thunder, a team that would eventually merge with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and make it to USA Pro. In season 3 OTR lost in the playoffs to the Florida Bulls, a team that was OC'd by Bell 3id... Drill Bit Taylor ATE us for lunch in that game... Season 4 was a season of promise for OTR, but we lost in the first round to the South Otto Mice... The team that was the most dominant in the west that season though was the Los Angeles Reign. They were owned by Refusetolose. When they didn't make the championship game (The Little Haiti VooDoo who later became the Matu Utu Voodoo won it), RefuseToLose blew up his team... Half of the team went to the South Otto Mice. A few of the agents joined OTR, and two are still here today... Nakedpanic and Bell 3id.

Season 5 was a HUGE rivalry season. On one side you had the South Otto Mice, and on the other side you had the OTR Red Dots... The rivalry was huge because of the separated Reign players facing each other, as well as season 4's playoffs... Both teams went undefeated until they faced each other late... OTR won and laid claim to the number 1 seed in the playoffs... With both teams clearly being the class of the league, we were destined to meet again in the Western Conference championship game... It was once again a battle, but OTR came out on top...

From that point on, South Otto and OTR have scrimmaged each and every season, and maintained a friendly rivalry... I can tell you that the game played today meant more to South Otto than any other game on their schedule this season, and the same applied to us... It was definitely cool though having this game on the schedule this season, as a lot of South Otto's current roster is the same as it was back in season 5. Definitely a flashback to a better era of GLB...

Stories like this and long term rivalries are what GLB is lacking as of late. Waiting for the schedules to come to see what day you’re going to face that long hated team is what used to be a huge part of the game back in the beginning. I miss those days

I know it was sad over at Alpine to hear about NMR gutting last season. Them and Spicewood were our greatest rivals

For a long time I knew South Otto only as some team that jktooley thought was really overrated

So many good memories. After season 5 was the clusterfiesta that was teams swapping slots. OTR went to AA 4, the Mice to AA1 through "trades." This rivalry took a hit as we only played scrimmages, but we still get up for OTR, and it is the game we circle on the schedule. Unfortunately, we know each other so well, and we end up being pretty even. I'm just trying to figure out who tooley bribed to force 4 turnovers in this recent game. We'll be ready if we meet again.

About 2/3 of our roster remains from those good ol' days.

In those days we were more active on the forums b/c of this rivalry and our history.

Overall, the record is 5-7 in favor of the Dots (including playoffs and excluding one scrimmage where we were testing things for each other), a fact that still irks me.

But it is rivalries like these that we lose with all the team movement, and GLB suffers for it.

We are. Pay no attention to us. We'll find a way to self-destruct.

jeez... that mention of NWA and the Thunder merging nearly brought a tear of nostalgia to my eye. I'm actually surprised you remember that.

Wow. MUV used to be LHV and they started in USA.

I never really followed the USA teams being in OPL, but I only think one of my team's biggest rivals even still exists. It is truly sad.

The Mist really don't have any rivals because we were little more than a mediocre team until two seasons ago when we put it together. As a result, USAPL is our third league in the last three seasons. Jumping leagues doesn't help with making rivalries. Even now the only two USAPL East teams we had faced prior to this season are the Tennessee Fury and the Vancouver Lions. They both destroyed us in our previous meetings. My point, anyway, is that rivalries in GLB are way too scarce anymore.

I miss the Royals and the Slashers tbh. A6 rivals for life.

The Hedgehogs, the Blaze, and the Royals moved through A6 so fast the Assault never really got a chance to create a rivalry with them. Ours was more with the Horde and the Ewoks. Down the road its been with CCIA, but now we're stuck in AAA for another season so we have no one once again

I always looked forward to those games!

Playoffs decide rivalries most often than not. Always fun to watch those games - the rest are just setting the stage for the playoffs. I hate all teams...I hate all your dots...

....now we are rivals!
