You want to soft cap punting as soon as possible. Before level 2 is awesome but level 2 is fine too.

wait until you can get it to 48 in one hit.

put all your SP into punting until you get it to 74 or 78, your choice

soft cap punting by adding your creation points (you mean you 15SP you get at the start right?)
