4 games to go, itīs time for the first prediction:
FootballForum Fighting Danes
So far they are 11-1 with a lonely loss against Perkis. However, they had some close games but were able to bring the W home. They have one of the best rushing offenses and they have Per Gonzalez. The Danes also havenīt thrown an INT yet in 12 games (but 17 TDs).
Hereīs the remaining schedule:
South Riding Stingrays (W)
Paris Penguins (W)
Graz Grizzlies (W), not sure about that one though
Global Gym Purple Corba's (W)
Prediction: 15-1, 1st seed
Team Perkis
9-3 so far they have been the only team to beat the Danes. They made huge improvements so far this season. They just beat Belfast in a very close one. Surprising losses against the Druids and especially against the Penguins in a game where the french FB caught passes for more than 500 yards. Perkis has the leading rushing offense and 5th best passing offense but only the gutted Dream Bolts allowed more passing yards per game. On the ground the allowed only a league-leading 37.1 yds/game.
Remaining schedule:
Frankfurt Sentinals (W)
Aviemore Angels (W)
Naples Purple Nurples (W) in a close game
Berlin Storm (W)
Prediction: 13-3, 2nd seed
E-City Mercaneries
Quietly the last season 1 WEPL alpha team played a very strong season so far (9-3) finally looking for a trophy. Led by a turnover ratio of +19 they had some very good games and quality wins but also close losses against the Stingrays and Penguins that should have been avoidable and they could easily be 11-1 right now. Led by their power back Duncan Idaho again they are ranked amongst the top rushing offenses. Their pass defense is the 2nd best in the conference.
Remaining schedule:
Belfast Commandos (L)
Frankfurt Sentinals (W)
Aviemore Angels (W)
Naples Purple Nurples (L) close game that could end either way
Prediction: 11-5, 4th seed
Belfast Commandos
They are the big surprise for me this season. Belfast made huge improvements and are 9-3 right now with the 3 losses combining for a point difference of 6 points. They have a very impressive turnover ratio of +39 together with their conference-leading 24 INTs (13 TDs). They also feature the 2nd most sacks and most pancakes in the conference. They have an elite offense and defense with both passing and rushing game amongst the top 5 in the conference for both categories. In my opinion they are the best team in Alpha but the results tell a different story.
Remaining schedule:
E-City Mercenaries (W)
Camelot Kings (W)
Paris Philharmonic (W)
Paris Penguins (W) maybe Paris can beat the 3rd top 4 team
Prediction: 13-3, 3rd seed due to losing the tiebreaker against Perkis
Graz Grizzlies
Youīll have to do the scouting for my team on your own. We are standing at 8-4 after a bad start where we went 1-3. You shouldnīt forget about us yet, we still have a quality team and want to surprise in the playoffs.
Remaining schedule:
Berlin Storm (W)
South Riding Stingrays (W)
FootballForum Fighting Danes (L) still waiting for our 1st win
Paris Dream Bolts (W)
Prediction: 11-5, 5th seed due to losing the tiebreaker against E-City
Camelot Kings
The first promoted team on the list is standing at 7-5 after a 6-1 start and still has to fight for the playoffs. Their QB Toronto Hitman 7 threw impressive 42 TDs with only 2 INTs. Itīs not surprising to see them among the top 3 passing offenses. They also do a great job defending the run (3rd in the conference).
Remaining schedule:
Global Gym Purple Corba's (W)
Belfast Commandos (L)
Frankfurt Sentinals (W)
Aviemore Angels (L)
Prediction: 9-7, 8th seed
Naples Purple Nurples
They are playing a good first Pro season and are standing at 7-5. They were able to keep the games against Belfast and the Danes within one possession and definitely know the name Per Gonzalez now. They are the first team on the list with a negative turnover ration (-7). Their starting HB will break the mark for 1000 passing yards next game and is leading the top 5 passing offense. Naples is having trouble putting pressure on the QBs as only 2 teams produced less sacks then them.
Remaining schedule:
Paris Dream Bolts (W)
Dublin Druids (W)
Team Perkis (L)
E-City Mercenaries (W)
Prediction: 10-6, 6th seed
Aviemore Angels
After 9 years in AAA they finally got promoted and are doing a good job here (7-5). Looking at their top player threats you see 4 HBs listed (one of them is returner) so there isnīt much more to say about their strengths on offense. The Angels also allow the fewest passing yards in the conference and the 4th fewest rushing yards, so their defense is top.
Remaining schedule:
Dublin Druids (W)
Team Perkis (L)
E-City Mercenaries (L)
Camelot Kings (W)
Prediction: 9-7, 7th seed
Dublin Druids
The Druids are in 9th place (6-6) with a surprising win against Perkis. They are leading the conference in sacks and PR TDs but already played 2 gutted teams. Other than that the only striking stats are their 2nd place in rush defense and the 15 INTs they caught.
Remaining schedule:
Aviemore Angels (L)
Naples Purple Nurples (L)
Berlin Storm (W)
South Riding Stingrays (L)
Prediction: 7-9, 10th place
South Riding Stingrays
The Stingrays stand at 6-6 in their second year in the league. The donīt put up very impressive stats but are a good overall team with some weaknesses in pass defense (4th worst). The Rays are among the top 5 in sacks and hurries but only caught 5 INTs that far.
Remaining schedule:
FootballForum Fighting Danes (L)
Graz Grizzlies (L)
Paris Dream Bolts (W)
Dublin Druids (W)
Prediction: 8-8, 9th place
Paris Penguins
The Penguins caught fire over the last games but still are only 5-7, so it was probably to late to make the playoffs. The last 3 games were wins against Perkis, E-City and Camelot but other than that the only win against a human team was by 3 against Berlin Storm. Their passing game is really impressive with 2 outstanding players: The QB Nike "The Playmaker" Unlimited threw for over 5400 yards and 59 TDs (3 INTs). Main target is the FB Ed Toner (1755 receiving yards, >500 of them coming against Perkis, and 17 TDs). He was only held once under 100 yards in the last 8 games.
Remaining schedule:
Paris Philharmonic (W)
FootballForum Fighting Danes (L)
Global Gym Purple Corba's (W)
Belfast Commandos (L)
Prediction: 7-9, 11th place
This would lead to the following first round match-ups:
(1) FootballForum Fighting Danes - (8) Camelot Kings
(4) E-City Mercenaries - (5) Graz Grizzlies
(2) Team Perkis - (7) Aviemore Angels
(3) Belfast Commandos - (6) Naples Purple Nurples
