He is level 25 right now, STR is at a natural 81. My vision for this dot was to make him a dominant pass rusher. I wanted to try to accomplish this with rev cakes and a mixture of shed block, strong base, and wall/break thru for run stopping.

Has anyone had success with high str/ strong base builds? My plan was to take agility and max out the 4:1 cap and then bring speed to the 3:1 cap while training conf/sta/vision.

Any comments or suggestions for the build?

I think you're on the right path. Str is the way Bort wants DT's and NT's to go so it can't hurt.

Even with the high strength, you need to bring agility to 81, then speed to at least 68.

Keep putting skill points into at 81 or through natural level ups?

keep putting sp into it until it is 81. You could stop at 77 and train it to 78 and let it grow, but I suggest you keep putting sp into it until it is 81 and let it grow to 85.

It would be level 50 by the time he got speed up with that plan, which I suppose is doable.

I have tinkered with high str on my DT. You get reverse pancakes galore, but still need speed to get the sack.

If you do this then I think 2 sets of AEQ with Tunnel Vision is the way to make up for the lack of speed.

Or FS

I am liking my 95/95/90 DT with 8 first step. I just wish I had slowbuilt him because he would be that much better at this point.

I just brought my speed up to 51 with my strength based lvl 25 NT, and have 5 sacks in the last two games. Will continue working speed to at least 68...

im thinking about building a DT... and i was thinking, what if you maybe avoid agility, and just pump strength and speed? and then get 2 pieces of FS AEQ as a kind of substitute for the lower agility? you could stand your own in the run game, and when you get a reverse pancake, you can quickly accelerate to top speed with FS and get the sack or hurry. im guessing someone has tried a build like this... does it work?

Might as well just build a DE and put him in a DT slot.

I've been building something similar- http://goallineblitz.com/game/skill_points.pl?player_id=1231065 .

At level 33, he has 89 base str (115 w/equ), 79 agility, 50 tackling, and 56.5 speed. I'm working on 3rd capping speed right now. I haven't hit SAs at all yet, but strong base/shed block is my planned focus.

The only thing that worries me about his build is that he hasn't been productive at all yet. Since speed is still a little low and he has no SAs, I wouldn't expect domination at this stage, but with his current attributes, I would expect some kind of production in a 28 cap league. I'm almost tempted to switch his focus to agility based, and just have a prototypical agility DT with 90+ strength. I'm going to wait until I have at least 68+ speed to make that decision though.

i would leave your build exactly as it is. the issue about productivity is two-fold. firstly casual league doesnt give a DC opportunity to be creative with dot placement, and secondly, the team around you may well be taking some of those stats you seek.

i would love a guy with your build on what is soon to be a cap 34 team. if you stay with your team, another 15-20 speed is going to give you what you seek in time. i wouldnt hit those SAs until you get into the 70s on speed(where you stop on speed is upto you)

I would move at least 1 piece of equipment to agility, and maybe 2. IMO - 90 agility is the min needed even with a lot of strength. Of course speed needs to be much higher so it's hard to tell at this point. Although I have had a lot of success with a 95/95 strength/agility 90 speed DT, I think 110 strength, 90 agility, 80 speed could be really effective.
