Heck, the Guvernator may be auctioning off the state name to pay bills soon enough. I'm thinking instead of saying Los Angeles, California, we may all have to get used to saying, "Los Angeles, Ryan's Steakhouse Delicious Yeast Rolls State of California."

How funny would it be if Texas Roadhouse restaurant bought the naming rights to the state of california

I don't see how this state full of actors, singers, mansions and all that stuff can be so broke. Texas is doing so well there was once talk that Texas coule in fact be it's own country as it is supporting majority of the other 48 financially.

Mostly it was the mansions. California has high property tax and it brings in billions in revenue. During the housing bubble that meant tax coffers were literally overflowing with property tax receipts, so the clever politicians decided they should institute every program they could think of to make sure they spent it all as soon as it came in.

Now, those houses are worth 50% less, so we've lost stupidly large amounts of that revenue, but the programs are all still there, expecting a check.

To compound it, the voters have passed dozens of laws by petition / voter initiative that basically say you can't raise taxes, you can't cut programs, and you have to run a balanced budget. Basically, i want my cake, and i want to eat it, and i want to be able to give some to everyone else in California TOO!

as a result the state is nearly ungovernable, and is in an amazing amount of debt. That being said, you CANNOT beat the weather

Yeah. It's been a bad thing lately. At least the Earthquakes haven't been too recent or mudslides. I remember being there recently where you drive on some highways near the beaches and if you look at the mountains, you see places where mud slides occurred.

Here in PA, you get it all: Rain, snow, rare tornadoes, some parts of hurricanes. You get the whole cake.

I usually get by you guys by striking up a conversation with whoever I am with when I am going to walk by.
Then, I realized- I can ACT like I am on the phone when I go by you guys.
