A big factor in all of this is the opponent you're facing. As you start getting into higher levels opposing D is going to have more options to improve their tackling ability, through attributes, SAs, AEQs and VAs. This makes breaking tackles harder even with the bonuses we can get.
I'm going to say weight has SOME factor to break blocking, but probably not as much as we might think. I know the sim takes momentum into account, so possibly having a great agility and good speed score will help as well to get that mountain rolling down hill and give the FB the edge to break a tackle at the line. Not sure if height is taken into account for breaking a tackle, as I'm not sure if the sim is complex enough to take into account center of gravity.
It has a noticeable effect. A power HB with more strength, more carrying, same speed, more agility, more confidence, more vision, same stamina, same VAs and more SAs has ~.3 less broken tackles per touch than my FB... we're on the same team and face the same competition, he is 36lbs lighter. That is the only appreciable difference between us, player weight and maybe +20% break tackle chance AEQ (I break ~50% more tackles than he does, so even factoring in the AEQ, it's still a 30% difference). Also, he has better attributes, so his base chance to break tackles should theoretically be better than mine...
That leaves two logical explanations... weight or x-factor.
