Well, for the most part it's counter intuitive. And if you completely ignore the level up points then what femmer did actually would make sense.

Really?
Also, OP (Original Poster
) Just put all of your points into punting. You are still boned, but your guy won't suck.

I'm pretty new at GLB, so I could really use your help. apparently this guy screwed up, but if someone could break down for me why he screwed up, that would be great.
From what I understand, a slow build player focuses on training to increase his attributes and avoids leveling up if possible. That way, once he's ready to actually gain XP, his attributes will be higher and he can reach caps faster, which increases the value of the automatic level ups at primary and secondary attributes. Am I thinking right? And if so, did this guy screw up because he leveled up prematurely before hitting any soft caps?
Feel free to make fun of me for my ignorance. But any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

there are a few variations of slow building.
the most common is sometimes reffered to as 'cap slow building' (not what OP did)
basically, you pick out what attributes are key for your player.
a kicker, for example, (because they are simple), wants loads of kicking and confidence. these are both 'major' attributes for a kicker, meaning they increase the most from leveling up. so you want to pump them up as fast as possible, so they see more gain from leveling.
so you will train kicking+vis (intense training is better in the long run), until you have enough skill points to raise kicking to the first cap. at which point you dump enough skill points into kicking to get it to 48 (first cap). the reason you hold off on spending skill points until you can do it in one hit is because you want training to be the most efffective.
where the OP has gone wrong is he has not capped attributes before leveling up, and so they have missed gains from leveling.
sorry, i suck at explaining things, thats why i'm so bad at tutoring
