I have asked questions before about why HB/FB Pass Blocking is so rubbish (especially why they block up the middle so much and forget about the DEs), but this time I want to know why the entirity of Pass Blocking is so bad.

In the game my team just played we were sacked 7 times. Our opponents were slightly higher rated ...

Our Overall Rating: 54 Theirs 57
Our Blocking: 54 Their Rush Defence 54 / Pass Defence 51

... and higher levelled:

Our starting O-line: 38,37, 35, 34, 33
Their starting D-line: 47, 41, 40, 39

... and quite possibly better built too.

So in preparation for this we used tons of TE, FB and HB Blocking. Unfortunately those guys may as well not have bothered for all the effect they had. Now I know that we sacked our opposition 4 times too, but that is besides the point here. What I want to know is, why in a Capped 38 League with fairly closely matched teams, 7 man blocking cannot stop 3 or 4 man pass rush.

Any constructive tactics discussion would be appreciated.

they have low blocking? might as well send em out on a route with the QB set to dump often or throw screens at em if they can't block and you get sacked 100 times a game - the FB should be able to block at least.

Our HBs don't have great Blocking, but our FBs certainly do. Part of the problem is that even though they have decent Vision and Spot Blitz SAs ... they generally still don't make great choices on who to block.

Whilst I know that this will be besides the point ... you don't see a 3 man rush beating 7 man blocking in the NFL.

I don't know. Sometimes keeping guys in to block actually allows more pressure to attack your line. If they were running routes it could actually relieve some of the pressure.

We have gone with that idea ... of making the HB/FBs more available for the dump off pass ... and is has definitely helped. Still think that HB/FB Pass Blocking needs improving in the SIM to make it more realistic and useful when game-planning.
