yeah, 5 ints and you still threw for 400 yards and beat us by 3 points

it'll be all about who can adapt

you're pretty one dimensional

it is moot though, we both have tough games ahead of us.

It's the playoffs now, I think everyone has equel shots at winning it

why would the chances be any more equal now than they were in the regular season?

is there some sort of stat mod that occurs in the post season?

When did you hear me say chances weren't equal during the regular season? And calm down man, lay down the steroids will you? Relax, this is a game...

huh?

you just said that everyone had an equal shot at winning since it wqas the playoffs.

that infers that its somehow different in playoffs rather than regular season...

What I meant to say was that there is no way to predict what will happen in a playoff game, and that every team is a potential candidat when it comes to winning the championship. Not every team is a potential candidat to make it to the playoffs for instance.

....why in the hell did we not kick field goals here? http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4901620 and http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4901412...the 6 points we needed for a tie

Congratulations to the Lumberjacks, you deserved the win today.

However, I have to say I am pretty pissed at the engine. Early on it "decided" to throw two times on 2nd and inches, two incompletes, punt. At the end of half one it "forgets" to kick a FG, time runs out with us inside their 20. This missed opportunity "forced" the engine to go for it on 4th down several times later on instead of taking another chip shot FG, which at the rate Dust is converting them could have made the game really interesting.

As I said, the win by the Lumberjacks is well deserved, and they probably would have come away with it anyway, but what the engine put together from our game plan today was just plain BS.

I think there are times when we've all been frustrated with the engine.

However, in real football, things don't always go as scripted. Guys make stupid mistakes and it costs them. So in defense of the engine, it makes the game more realistic. If everything went exactly the way it was "supposed" to, it wouldn't be as much fun.

Sincerely,

A team that a heck of a lot of close games where lots of little things could have happened to give us the win. AWC

In general I agree with you Kramer, but some of those are worse than others. "Forgetting" to kick a field goal is just horrible, it pissed me off too even though I was on the benefitting end.

Sure, but I had to vent., It is one thing to lose because your game plan fails. But to see that many stupid mistakes due to decisions that would not have been made had we already got the advanced tactics is just really really frustrating.

5 times inside their 30 and we come away with 3 points, mostly not because of turnovers but because the engine decides to go for it on 4th down, or let the time run out rather than kick a FG?

@Kramer, just put this together for my game review, maybe it helps you understand why I was so upset with the engine. Imagine we are driving towards the end of the half, down by 14. Both Lumberjack TDs came after turnovers in our own half. We are inside their 20, with 32 seconds to go. We get off one pass play, then time runs out: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904013

One pass play in 32 seconds? No FG attempt? That is just ridiculous, sorry. Given the distance and looking at Dusts track record let's assume this is a made FG, hence we are down 11 at half time.

We drive towards their end zone, then comes this: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904519
Now down 11 (or even 14 for that matter, as it was in the real game) at the start of the 4th, why would you go for it? Kick the gimme FG, you are down 8. Oh well. We hold them to a three and out, drive again, getting stopped at their 5.5 on 3rd down. Of course we are down 14, not 8, so we go for it. Down 8? You go for the FG, after all there are still 10 minutes to go, and the Lumberjacks have managed to put together only 1 (!) long drive against us at that point (and for the rest as well). But of course we are down 14, not 8, so have to go for it, turnover on downs. But it gets better. We hold them to a three and out again. We drive again, get stopped at their 27, leading to this http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904722
Ok, that would not have been a an easy FG, but under 50 yards, and Dust certainly is a kicker that can make those. And suddenly we'd have a very interesting remaining 6 minutes.

Of course you have to account for worse field position had a FG been converted at some point, and for a FG possibly being missed, of course all this is hypothetical, but it all hinges on that "forgotten" FG at the end of half one.

Mind you, I am not saying we would have won if not for that, the Lumberjacks were the better team and won deservedly, but that one decision prevented a far more interesting and closer game than it turned out to be in the end. And that does not have anything to do with it being "realistic", any Pop Warner coach misplaying the end of the half in that way would probably fired by his players parents for that.

Well said.

Edit: Also, every WEPL coach should know that it's always a bad idea to go for it on 4th against the Woo Jacks red zone defense.

I always used to just say 'well it happens equally to all, and it was my time to be screwed' but it does seem that there is a certain style of playing that 'Allows' for these BS Sims and makes you more likely to win the fluke.

So I think thats why we see SO many weird results in the Play Offs every season.

Im GMing 6 teams, and am advising another 10 or so, and in ALL those leagues, there were several games in the play offs with very 'stupid' decisions by the Sim Engine in games, just like ZZ's example, and the only teams to overcome that stupidity play a similar style of game.
