Well, there's not much point in doing power rankings anymore since seven of the sixteen teams in the conference are dead in the water, so we'd like to do something a little different around the Kampfire and talk playoffs. The Kampfire supercomputer has been furiously crunching punch cards, and we've come up with the following insights:
1) Monmouth Evil Monkeys: The Devil Monkeys have already played all the good teams in USA Pro West. The 1 seed is theirs.
2) Minnesota Marauders: Get a couple of weeks off before back to back games against Lincoln and the Wolfpack. Right now, we're hard pressed to deny them the 2 seed.
3) Washington Wolfpack: Contrasted with MEM, the Wolfpack close out the season against five putative playoff teams, including a huge game against Minnesota. The Kampfire supercomputer slots them as the 3 seed.
4) Lincoln Navigators: Same good teams on the schedule as the Wolfpack, probably the 4 right now. http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2009-03/45608886.jpg
5) Honolulu Hurricane Warriors - Pretty much a done deal that they'll be the 5.
6) Ketchikan Kamper Adventure Rentals - Ah, here's where things start to get interesting. Ketchikan has "probable" wins against Parma and Chicago left, and probable losses to the Wolfpack, Navs, and Marauders. This sets up a huge tilt with Nashville to put Ketchikan at either 10-6 or 9-7. Ketchikan is currently projected as the 8 seed.
7) Compton Vikings - Probable wins against Dread City, WSI and Parma left, probable losses to Lincoln and the Wolfpack. Again, the rubber match is against Nashville to put Compton at 10-6 or 9-7. Ketchikan has head-to-head over Compton. The computer SAYS, "6".
8) Nashville Hounds - You fools shocked yet? Nashville is riding high, but we should point out they just finished the NY-CA, DCD, WSI, Parma gauntlet. Looking at the schedule, probable wins against Chicago, probable losses to Lincoln, Washington, Marauders, and then the two games for their playoff hopes. So that puts them at somewhere between 9-7 and 7-9. Hold head to head over SDD if it comes to that. Probably on the outside of the playoffs unless they can pull both slight upsets over Ketchikan and Compton.
9) San Diego Demolition - If they can't beat Texas, SDL, Chicago, NY-CA, DCD, and WSI, they don't need to worry about the playoffs. If they can, however, they're looking at 9-7 and head-to-head over Ketchikan. The Kampfire projects them as the 7 seed.
