And if so, what should be trained?

I don't see the point since they are only 100 FP and Punters are plentiful.

Congratulations. You screwed up your kicking build to make a horrible punter.

IMO you can't really screw up a punter. you can temporarily screw up a punter, but stick with it and you'll reach relevance again at like lvl 35 or so with the right eq. See my punter (lvl41) is INCREDIBLY efficient (is just a punter, not a PK) and is probably one of the worst builds ever. Most of the reason is cuz his team picks him up, but even a great punter in this situation couldn't do much better. I go by net avg and my net this season is 35.8, the net of some cross conference rivals are 33.2, 23.0 (man their punting game sucks lol), 33.1 these are all top teams in my division and I trump them. All punt bars are equal to me (72) except the last one is a 69 (goes to show the best builds don't necessarily mean jack when you got an efficient special team that can tackle the return man in time making you look good the best punts are kicked out of bounds anyway...).

Here is how I made my punter (basically I didn't know anything) the normal clueless noob way of TONS of sa's. But that's good! you know why? cuz punters don't normally have 3, 4 downs to work with, they only got one. So you need your SA to be unusually HIGH so it triggers 95% of the time, not just 2 or 3x a drive. You may only get 1 or 2 punts in a game! Anyway what this does is it takes away from your immediate skills. In fact if you don't do it right those bonuses can remain stockpiled and latent there for a number of lvls before you can even use them!! but anyway you may suck up to lvl 35 but I am living proof that a punter with a crap build can easily be ST 'MVP' simply because his supporting cast is awesome. Hang in there, develop a plan (that I didn't have until a few seasons ago anyway) and, unless Bort nerfs the punter- which imo he SHOULD do and this is why... but there's really no way around it, you'll be just fine. Use some networking skills, be a proper agent punters aren't the top priority of most teams so getting good with a good team shouldn't be very hard.

I mean heck, I got Automatic to 3 (yes an extra SA JUST IN CASE I am made to kick lol... nothing better to do with that anyway) and don't even use my VA's! (15 pts into motivational speaker and 3 pts into that pulling offsides one that doesn't even work on punters... in the offseason I spotlight as a wanabee QB ;p). OFC I do have custom equipment that helps a TON... but. Another thing, buy custom equip and you'll be fine. Boosting helps too.

The owner of my team have not hired a punter right now ... and I will receive much XP, more than as playsing as PK lonely. My man is just at level 17 and an avg. of 20.7
Knowname:
you just raise your tackling my Level 41 have had more tackling & PPG as your man (he playing in the Kicking Teams)

And by the way ... as Level 41 P he receiving in some games more than 100 XPs, why?
Level 40 - 5 games: 170, 133, 125, 125 ,100

An avg of 20.7 is actually pretty bad for that level. A similar level punter should be 30+ on average (not to mention much more effective with coffin corners)

Your XP in an out-of-position role is capped, in case you weren't aware, but regardless, you're putting more points into a worthless build. Just because your owner is condoning it doesn't make it right, it just makes him either an idiot or oblivious.

It's also interesting to note that there's a lvl 14 CPU punter in your league that's getting 30 yards / punt.

wow yeah. If it's one thing I wish my punter could do it's tackle :| /sarcasm

lol but the game is meant for fun, some ppl have fun with the complete guarantee that your making a successful build, some ppl like to screw around. I'd still suggest that Herr-Go concentrate just on punting with his punters NOT getting them 75 tackle, just punting. But it's up to him. Matta warns this because you will see, above lvl 50 or so it will be very hard to get a job when your punter only kicks for 30 yards a game and nets 13. BTW your team really needs to work on their ST unit, you must be giving up EXCELLENT field position every game.

But then ofc you could just use him on your team forever more. They seem relatively successful despite the terrible special teams. I just hope you don't treat your position players with such disregard to their primary job.

Hey, punters aren't supposed to tackle...they are supposed to run to a soft spot in the field and lay down with their arms facing towards the returner...Either that, or they jump and grab the facemask, and hold on like a bullrider trying to make it 8 seconds.

I'm building a combo K/P. The dichotomy is a great scoring team uses the K a lot and the P collects dust; on a horrible team the P gets used a lot and the K collects dust. So my idea for a K/P is for a player who gets all the kicking XP. He's technically a P and I've been building him as a good P but training Kicking/Strength. I got AE for Automatic and will be getting another piece for Big Boot. He should be quite versatile when he's all said and done. He's Level 26 now. Unfortunately, he's on the same team as my K and this team is a high powered machine so he collects dust.

Rather than combining K/P, I'm surprised teams don't have multiple K's and a P: a high STR / high Big Boot Kick-off specialist, a high Conf / High Vis / high Calm Nerve FG-specialist, and a punter.
