I mean no disrespect to any of the celebrities that have died recently, but not one of those people (except for Mr. Ed McMahon) put their lives on hold to defend their countries (I am not just pointing out my fellow American service members, but service members from all countries).

I hope that I don't offend anyone by pointing this out. I just believe that it is sometimes very, very sad that a handful of people that for the most part have lived full and incredible lives are placed on such a high pedestal and mourned for by millions when they die. There have been literally thousands of service members that have died to protect the nations that they serve. I know that (for the most part) unless people are directly effected by those deaths, deceased United States military members take a silent C-17 flight home where they are honored by the base color guard and family members and then laid to rest.....but that is about it.

Good post.

I just think that people do appreciate it but Service people know they are unheralded heroes of the world. They do their jobs for the better of the world, not to get noticed and be popular.

My grandfather was in the armed forces, WWII, god rest his soul.

I have to agree with this completely. I just said goodbye to one of my childhood friends yesterday as he shipped out to Japan today (LCpl. in the Marines). With the stuff going on in North Korea, Japan is a scary place to be. And if anything goes down my buddy is right on the front lines. Just hoping this shit won't get that far and he will be back safely and the end of this tour.

To the service members who serve not out of necessity but for the desire for a better and safer place for the next generations of americans. May your journey home be a safe one. We're all pulling for you.

WTF? Michael Jackson was not only a warrior, but an OFFICER! He didn't just defend ONE country, but the whole WORLD.

Captain EO, ftw!
