which should i take first? assuming i can get both.

Once you buy one - the other will disappear. Personally I would go I think Calm Nerves is the better SA - but Big Boot is more cost effective in terms of SP's it takes to build up........

I'd take the Big Boot if this is your first piece. It will save you points in the long run. I do agree, that you want to try to get your CN up to match your BB SA over time, but also make sure you get those basic skilss right first before getting any SA points.
