What type of SS is the best to build? Coverage or Hard Hitting? Or does that depend on the type of team your player is on?

I have 1 SS and he is a Coverage SS but now I am making another one for a slow building team and would like to know which build is more effective, fun, overall best.

Depends on how the team you play for wants to use you. If they want you to play a lot of zone or man coverage on the TE, then obviously you want to go for coverage. If they want you to help out with the run, then hard-hitter. All depends on the system.

Basic Answer...
Start to build whichever type YOU prefer. Both build types have their uses., and GOOD team will pick you up with an eye toward putting you into a given role, while a GOOD Def Coord will be sure to use you in a role that suits your build. Of course you'll want to be sure your build is good at whichever option you pick!

Longer answer...
As a SS in cover duties, you'll either be put into man situations on what is often going to be a "secondary" receiving option (TE/HB/FB), or (if your build is VERY cover oriented) in double man cover with a CB, on a WR. This means you will tend to cover the shorter, higher percentage routes, on your own, OR you will have to "fight" with a CB to get those "sexy" INT/PD stats.

As a Hard hitting SS you will have your share of chances to stick a HB/FB coming off tackle, or wide. You will still be facing the same types of receivers as the Cover SS faces in single cover situations (TE/HB/FB), but you alone will pick up the few PD/INT numbers these routes tend to give, AND you have the extra option of maybe sticking your guy for a FF/monster Tackle.

So if by "fun" you mean personal stats, then MAYBE the hard hitter SS has a slight edge in the number of chances, and his ability, to create the "sexy" side stats. But if by "fun" you mean creating a player who can effectively play a role on a well run team, and building to fill that role in the hopes of an eventual title run, then both types are Dead equal; it all depends on what YOU put into your build.

With Jackhammer being so good I'd say hard hitting. Knocking the ball loose is far more effective than trying to be a pure pass deflect guy because at least 80% of receivers ignore carrying for the most part.

But of course you still have to be fast and agile to get the big hits off.

Tabernacle.... i had sexy stats for awhile but put out in the first round of the playoffs. i got with a team whose DC told me how he wanted my stats to advance and bam! we lost in the championships. I say get with your DC and see the direction they want to use you and go from there. But good advice, Thats not football. Heck with the fancy stats, its going to the chip and getting that trophy.
