Hi guys,

let me ask you for advice on FS EQ.

My FS is about to hit 68 natural speed, the next immediate targets being bringing Vision to 60 and agility to 60.

Right now all my basic EQ is in speed. Im planning to buy CE for the next season and Im not sure whether to put it into speed OR into Vision. Im also not sure whether its worth spending FP on any of the FS SA tree.

Any input supported by arguments is welcome. Thanks.

SA tree is really valuable. Change Direction, super vision, swat ball, closing speed are all nice. Shutdown Coverage is a must if your DC plays you man to man at all. At least worth it to have like 2-3 in for the plays you line up man to man.

The hard hitter tree isn't that bad either. Bort said a season or two ago about wrap up and diving tackle being valuable but diving tackle hasn't shown up this season in the PbP. Not sure if it means it's not activating ever or just not showing up anymore. Monster/Big Hit is good for SSs I only have 2 in Big Hit for my FS and he gets 1 a game. Not sure exactly how much Growl helps but probably can't hurt with all these super elusive and power backs. Who knows. Might actually help there.

what about first step? I have one piece in FS and one in SV is that pretty good or should I try and replace FS?

first step sucks for FSs who play mainly zone coverage. Once you get it past 3 you start jumping back in your zone really quickly sometimes taking you out of run or shallow pass support. Good for when you play at the line or in man though

Though, once you get it high enough, it should trigger on both drop back and run/pass support. Before that, the inconsistency will negatively affect your player.

well if you're in zone on a run play or short pass, you'll quickly drop back further in your zone leaving you more out of position. Does first step reactivate after you drop back fast and realize it's a run? If not, high first step would probably make you drop back further

it's great for if you're lined up man to man in case the guy you're guarding has a lot of first step so you can keep up or if you're blitzing because you can get across the line real fast

I watched flames' F.S. with like 100+ speed and 70 agility with like 10 first step. He was nuts. But he did drop back out of plays a lot. His vision was kinda low. I would like to think if it was high enough he might be able to react to runs or short pass plays better and get better use out of first step. It really is a double edged sword for a F.S.

First step does have a chance to reactivate after dropping back and reading the play as a run. IMO, it's an SA that you want to be either really high or really low, as the middle levels make it into a liability (where it has a decent chance to activate but is still inconsistent). I'd only want to touch it if I had an AEQ to push it over the top.

The SA tree is really worth it. I would keep the CE into Speed and use the VA Football Genius to gain 4-5 points into Vision. You still get .5% from that VA so with Vision to the 60 cap, the return is still pretty good once you get it to 15.

I read somebody's post earlier about First Step being active on plays in which the player comes to a stop (i.e. changes direction in the opposite direction). So when it's high enough, it allows your FS to recover from a dropback i suppose.

Since I DC on my FS's team I always start the FS deeper then the zone with the DPC...sit him back, use a shallow zone...that way he's always running forward at the snap.
