Looks like the center missed the block
Not really, it is more of an issue that he sees the MLB as more of a threat than the DT. Even yet the DT should not be able to get in there that fast (I would accept if he makes the tackle after the handoff--you almost never see a DT getting to the QB before).
And sorry that I made Lincoln think I was trying to write it off. I have no idea how you guys have the record you do as I've seen your team as a playoff squad from Day 0. If you guys manage to sneak in the 8th/7th spot a top seed is going to have a very tough team on their hands.
I think it's more an issue with that particular play (the Weak I Pitch L) than sweeps in general. I've pointed out the play to Bort and he's talking about changing the definition to not have the LG pull as that seems to be what is causing the issue. It's noted though fwiw.Let the LG pull but send the FB to plug the gap or keep the LG in place but let the RG pull.
Or, try out having the center automatically go for the DT on that play instead of a blitzer. The block doesn't have to be real good, just enough to slow his forward movement.
And yes, now that I've been looking closer it seems to be a problem only when the guards pull. A good FB can still pick up the LBs on the outside without many issues.
If for some crazy reason, you did draw up a play like this IRL, the C would be asked to immediately execute a cut block on the DT. If he misses, the DT still has to dodge it which slows him up.
The current play design is beyond stupid though. Good thing for testing, eh?
