Ok, for my lvl 14 SS, I already have a piece of +2 spd, +2 Closing Speed after 2 upgrades.

Because I have 12 BT's and felt like seeing if there was anything out there, I rolled another piece that is +1 catch, +1 Change Direction.

My question is, should I stay with CS or go with the CD piece? They are in different spots, but I don't know if I want to roll with 2 pieces right away. Any thoughts?

Go with CD. CD and SV are (IMO) the top two SS SAs, and closing speed is somewhat mediocre. It's alright, CD is just way better.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Just wasn't sure since CS is at the end of the coverage tree if it was worth it to keep it.

Yeah, I'd rather have Change Direction than Closing Speed.

I'd keep them both.. even if you don't use them both right away.. their both good pieces.. but if you only want one.. CD

CD is the piece to roll with. But I wouldn't worry too much about AE's at lvl 14. You can stock pile your BT's, and you start rolling better pieces after lvl 24, 32, 40, 48.

Keep CD pump it up, and save the rest of your BT's.

CS>>>>>>CD in my experience. That huge boost of acceleration makes a world of a difference.

One is really not better than the other. assuming you have one safety with 11 CD and another with 11CS. Having both at 11 would be absolutely nuts.

If I had a gun held to my head and had to choose one or the other I would choose Change direction over Closing speed every day of the week.

Closing speed has an off chance to activate when you are behind the play, or the play isn't going in your direction. Who wants to be behind a play in the first place?

Change direction is devastating to just about every offensive player in the game. As a S.S. you can rarely ever get beat or juked with high Change Direction. You also make awesome plays you won't normally make simply because you have the ability to prowl the field better than those around you.

Basically change direction keeps you in front of the play and ends it right there.

Closing speed will help catch up to a play faster, but not much faster than change direction will. High closing speed will get you beat. High change direction will hardly get you beat.

Both would make you dominate.

To be honest, the Closing Speed language is kinda fuzzy. It doesn't necessarily say it's when you're trailing the guy, nor that it deactivates when you get close. I mean, technically it can't deactivate till you hit the guy because if you're trailing and helps you get close but then stops, the WR/RB would just pull alway again. I haven't heard much talk about it or anyone having Bort/Testers clarify it. If someone has a post on it that'd be great.

I've noticed a bit of a speed boost when closing in on a ball carrier in front of me since getting a closing speed AeQ. I had to go with it since it was +3 agility +1 closing speed and now is up to +3 CS (+4 in a few days when i upgrade again). Both CD and CS are 7 for me at the moment.

The fact that the first piece is +2speed +2CS AFTER 2 upgrades means definitely go with the other piece as it's better. Ideally, you're going to want

+3spd/agi/vis str (if it's double capped)
+1 SV/CD/CS

Honestly, I haven't had any trouble with elusive backs. Maybe one, but he had exceptionally high agility and SA's. It's the powerbacks I still have trouble with. Even my LB with almost 90 strength and 70-something tackling has trouble with powerbacks.

Every now and then you make a very solid post that makes me wonder what medication you're on (or not on) the other 90% of the time I don't give Closing Speed quite as much credit as you do, but I agree with the heart of your post.
