My possession receiver kicked ass at low levels. Then, in his fourth season of play, he stopped getting targeted. He's been struggling to find a working formula since.

This is what I'm afraid will happen to my WR. Although his speed isn't as low as the OP.
Once he gets into lvl30ish, I'm hoping to get his speed to 74(natural).

Last season, he entered as the WR1 but put up third best numbers for WR. This season, he's putting up the second best in WR as a WR2.

What has helped him in the games is his stamina, which is higher than all WR.

Right now, he's more of a possession WR but I still have a good chance of making him a balance WR.

lol, it's gotten so easy to build a successful WR, people are looking for ways to fuck them up

the only was a possession receiver can be successful is if an entire team is full of them, simply because a QB has to throw to SOMEONE

I just want to put out there that possession WRs can be successful, just not at low speeds at higher levels. Once you get into the level 33+ range, possession WRs need to have minimum 68 speed (considering Bort classifies this as high), (and 68 agility) anything less and they just don't get the targets. That being said I have seen a huge drop off in the number of targets for the 68+ speed possesion guys this season which is very disheartening because last season I thought that the true possession WRs were not only viable, but also perfectly balanced within the sim.level

All possession WRs for the 3-8 yard pass on a primarily run based team where the HB, FB, and TE are pass options as well could severely dominate any defense if you have a smart OC.
Not to mention, possession receivers usually require a bit more in the way of SAs, and attributes not as high in demand so you can train up stats like strength/blocking, put a little SP into them and get away with helping the run game - especially since your WR isn't going to brush right past the CB before realizing he has to block him.

My god, I just noticed he put up a Brandon Marshall like performance in his latest scrimmage.

19 catches for 140 yards. 1 drop. There's also a sequence where he catches 4 passes in a row and 5 on the same drive.

All the critics see is that you were 1 of 2 WRs on the field the entire game, there was no one else to throw to. You guys jacked the ball up every play and you lost by 30 points and your guy averaged 7 yards per catch? Bravo. Did they play a prevent with the big lead leaving you open for all those short passes underneath? I bet a speedster in your place would have doubled your teams score. I will say the 86% catch ratio looked nice, but look for that to fall as you level if you don't keep your speed up.

You're not much of a betting man, then. Oh, and by critic, I'm sure you mean pessimist. I like to stay positive.

68 speed is the minimum you'll be able to get away with and you'll need to compensate by having a minimum of 68 agility and most likely high route run.

Rabble rabble rabble. You and your standards.

In time, perhaps. It's not as if I do not spend anything on speed. But the simple fact is that catching is my priority. You see how fast the dots move on your screen. I see radii, positioning, defensive schemes, height, width, depth. Analyzing a receiver is not looking at their 40 (unless your name is Al Davis).

I consider my WR a possession receiver but he's still got 3rd capped speed/agility and all EQ in speed (along with some AEQ bonuses). It's the 70+ catching & possession SAs/VAs that make him different from other WRs on his team. The elusive guys go off against poor teams. My guy does better against good teams.

That is a balance WR and they rock.

Actually, I'm a Giants fan, but you just gotta love the Raiders anyway.

Besides, I can't avoid talking crap about a guy who chooses Darius Heyward-Bey over Crabtree or Maclin.

Im currently building a more balanced WR, so far he is at 68 speed, 52 jump, 53 vis, 55 catch, 33 conf, 31 carry and 30 agi at lvl 27. Im bringing his speed up to the 6:1 mark so he will be quite deadly in a few lvls time.
When speed is nice and high, ill get catch to 68 while i work on agi with training. He is an experiment going up against my speedy wr (74 speed, 60 agi at lvl 22).
