1. Green Bay Maulers
Record: 4-0
Last Game Recap: I thought it would be much closer, but it wasn't as the Maulers destroyed the Golfers 63-16. Another 7 forced fumbles for GB and crew pretty much told the story in this game.
Season Notes: I am starting to wonder if these guys are going to lose now. It seems the only way is if forced fumbles get nerfed. They are averaging over 7 forced fumbles a game. If they were an average team on offense maybe they could be beatable, but they are scary efficient on offense. They seem to throw the deep ball well with roughly a 9.0 YPC rate. Their running game while not spectacular this season gets the job done by moving the chains. They hold onto the football also, with their RB's only fumbling 3 times this year. Consider me excited for next weeks match up against the Gamblers.
Next Up: Las Vegas Gamblers.
2. Las Vegas Gamblers
Record: 3-1
Last Game Recap: I said last week that Richey was under rated, but wow what a shocker here. 2 weeks in a row now the Gamblers defense got shredded through the air, but unlike last week they also go ran over on the ground. They had no answer for Dusty Turner who had almost 200 yards rushing on 21 carries. It wasn't a fluke loss either with the Royals having zero ST touchdowns. End of the world for the Gamblers?
no not even close. This might even make them better, but it shows they are beatable.
Season Notes: I wonder if and when Hazy will say fuck it and run with Copeland 50 times a game. I don't know if it can really be stopped? Gamblers are in good shape still at 3-1. They get the Maulers next week which will probably determine who gets the #1 seed this season.
Next Up: Green Bay Maulers
3. Cincinnati Shockers
Record: 3-1
Last Game Recap: Pulled out a tough victory against the Carolina Hammer. The Juice, not Orangeblood was the hero of the game with a 10 yard touchdown scamper with 1:08 left in the game. Orangeblood was somewhat held in check only averaging 4.2 YPC.
Season Notes: Shockers are piling up quality win after quality win. Jacob Orangeblood is scary good. He leads the eastern conference is rushing yards with 666. John Young is 2nd in the eastern conference in passing yards with 1251. What does that add up to? A high octane offense which is sure to bring nightmares to opposing teams defensive coordinators. Even if their offense isn't on (which is rare) their defense can keep them in games. They only give up 67 yards on the ground. If they have a week spot it might be their pass D which is giving up over 350 yards a game. With that said they have 6 interceptions, so it seems they make the big play when needed.
Next Up: CCCC
4. Washington Bullets
Record:3-1
Last Game Recap: The Bullets couldn't get the run game going at all against the Woodys. They put the ball on the ground 6 times while losing 4 of them. 2 big plays were the difference makers in their 33-23 win over the Woodys. HI $TEPPIN, intercepted a Lindberg pass and took it to the house for a touchdown. BALL$ DEEP caught a 55 yard touchdown pass late in the 3rd quarter which put and end to the Woodys.
Season Notes: Bullets keep rolling along. Their lack of a running game last week scared me a bit, but I am going to chalk it up to a great defensive effort by the Woodys. They have a great defense. Near the top of the eastern conference in both Rushing and Passing yards allowed. A ball hawking secondary has netted them 8 interceptions already in this young season. They have the light part of their schedule coming up with 2 of their next 3 games almost guaranteed victories. I see them being 6-1 going into their week 8 match up against ***O***
Next Up: Pittsburgh Steel
5. Over The Rhine Red Dots
Record: 3-1
Last Game Recap: Meh, gutted game. Move along
Season Notes: I love JkTooley, he is such a swell guy. Don't say anything bad about him please and join his baseball team OK? (better jk?)
Next Up: Demon Lions
6. ***OFG***
Record: 2-2
Last Game Recap: See Demon Lions
Season Recap: OFG has shown that fire power this year, especially through the air. Very efficient with a 72% completion rate while still totaling almost 400 yards a game. Defense might not be the best in the league, but it certainly gets the job done.
Hulk is my early favorite for QB of the year with a dominating 117 QB rating. Week 7 match up against NAN should be great. Will we see 1500 yards passing combined? Stay tuned.
Next Up: Woodys
7. Carolina Hammer
Record: 2-2
Last Game Recap: See Shockers
Season Notes: Tough loss against the Shockers. Winning that game would have went a long way for the Hammer's chance on a top 4 seed. They still have a great run D. Limiting Orangeblood to only 4.2 YPC is very good imo. The hammer must get their run game going. I believe i said last week that they want to run the football and stop the run. Well they are only doing 50% on the job in that respect. 2.2 Yards per carry is just pitiful.
3 of their next 4 games are against teams new to USA Pro. If they plan on making some noise this season I feel they must win 3 out of their next 4.
Up Next: Alpine Golfers
8. Alpine Golfers
Record: 3-1
Last Game Recap: See Maulers
Season Notes: Well, I said last week that the game against the Maulers will show what the Golfers are all about. It appears they aren't ready to be a contender yet. I still feel they will make the playoffs this season, but I am lowering my expectations for them a little bit now.
Next Up: Carolina Hammer
9. Detroit Demon Lions
Record: 2-2
Last Game Recap: Very tough loss for the Demons Lions this week. They lost to ***O*** by 1 point. Both defenses put the clamp down in the 4th quarter which only saw a single field goal. Mind you this was after they both combined to score 72 points in the first 3 quarters. OFG shredded the Lions D to the tune of 480 passing yards. Hulk was almost perfect completing 19-21 passes for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns. Demon Lions did do a decent job stopping the run holding OFG to 84 yards rushing on 25 carries.
Season Notes: The Lions sure like to play close games. Another game which was decided by less than a touchdown sent them to 2-2 on the season. They forced their 1st fumble of the season last game. It also seems like they are figuring out how to run the ball better, but they are to inefficient through the air for my taste. Paul Blake is barely completing 50% of his passes. I am sticking to my guns and saying they are in for a long season. 4 tough match ups in a row coming up and its possible the Lions could be 2-6 going into the halfway point of the season.
Next Up: OTR
10. Richey Roayls
Record: 1-3
Last Game Recap: See Gamblers
Season Notes: 1-3 obviously is a bad start, but there early season schedule was just insane. Opponents combined record is 12-4 on the season. Richey pulled off the upset of the season so far my knocking off the Gamblers. Maybe a QB controversy in Richey? Starting QB Sparrow has thrown only 3 touchdowns with 6 interceptions. Backup QB Karyn Marino has been stellar is far fewer attempts with 5 touchdowns passes and 0 interceptions. Richey has the best pass D in the league right now only allowing 169 yards a game through the air. There problem seems to be stopping the run. Allowing 298 yards per game is just well ya know bad. If they can figure out how to stop the run you can pencil in the Royals as a lower seed in the eastern conference.
