Forum > Position Talk > CB Club > How much strength to break WR blocks?

I've noticed in recent game tapes that there are a lot of HB screen plays, where the HB gets a pitch and a WR will block my CB.

My CB has really low Strength, how high should I aim to get it to try and break these WR blocks? I know it depends greatly on what WR I'm up against, but I have no idea how much strength/blocking they run nowadays. My CB is set to use agility to get around blockers and agility is 3rd capped (68+), so now I'm working on the secondary skills.

Edit:

After reading this thread, http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=837323 , it seems most WRs may be running high blocking rather than strength. How do you beat 'Blocking'?

Most WRs are running neither blocking nor strength.

Assuming your agility is already high, Strength is going to be your best investment if your primary concern is breaking blocks. Nice thing is Strength will also help you disrupt passes.

NO need. your corners should be fast and agile enough to run off of the blocks

Looks like you had more STR than the WR, if you pump it more he might knock him to the ground faster. TBH, though that was an easy block for the WR to make because of the route combination.

In that play you were up against a CPU player with 45 overall and 27/24 for skills.
I would think that would make it a hard to read, CPUs are odd builds.
He may be built like a line man?

I got my CB's strength up to 30 a long time ago and have got it to 44 now.
Next Season's boost he will probably become a JackHammer CB, right now he's more of a pain-in-the-@$$ CB.
He is more of a cover corner.

My take is that if you are a CB who is 1:1 with a WR built 100% for blocking you are likely in trouble on certain plays where Outside Blocker (30% increase in SPD, AGL, VIS, BLK) + Downfield blocker (60% bonus to holding a block come into play). Plus if he has a Hold Block% AE that could be another bonus of 15% or more.

Best solution is to get help from someone else. Honestly on some plays it might be better to just get pancaked right away and hope the WR starts looking for other guys to block.
