Coming from a Eastern Conference team owner this isn't going easy to swallow for some but I'll be fair and unbiased. The disparity between the two conferences is considerable, the best in the West is better than the East and the bottom of the conference is much worse. Other than that the top 1/2 of the teams are going to be very closely contested and it'll be a great season. Spots two through six are almost too close to call so bear with me.
1. B.C. Assasins. http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=5913
This team is stacked at every position. A slight lack of depth at WR, CB and LB indicates they might be susceptible to some big plays on special teams but their offense and defense will be brutal for opposing competition. No GMs means the owner is taking the whole operation into his own hands. If he knows his stuff that team will be unstoppable, it makes me glad I'm in the East. Giving jerry the benefit of the doubt, I don't for see any upsets coming his way. Cape Canaveral, Philly, Thundertown, Gotham and the Mad Dawgs could give them a challenge but if jerry knows his AI I don't think it'll happen. 16-0.
2. Gotham Crusaders http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=504
Of the next four teams the Crusaders look to have the best starting unit and enough depth to keep them fresh without a big drop off in talent. If they do end up bringing in two more CBs and another WR, like stated in the other thread, there is no doubt about it. The fact that they have 100 chemistry and a small hand full of GMs signifies to me they formulated a concerted game plan and are on track to carry it out. Cape Canaveral, Philly and the Mad Dawgs are threats to take the #2 spot but as is I see it now, Gotham is holding on to it. 15-1, no worse than 14-2 if one of those teams can pull off an upset.
3. Cape Canaveral Constellation http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1028
This is where it gets really interesting, the next three teams have very comparable rosters and chemistry will be a moot point at the time the games are played. This is just a possible scenario really... Cape Canaveral, Philly and the Mad Dawgs all win their inter conference games and end up in a 13-3 tie. Constellation beats the Birds but looses to the DAWGS, Crusaders and Assassins, Constellation ends up 13-3
4. Philadelphia Birds http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1605
Philly beats the DAWGS but looses to Cape Canaveral, Crusaders and Assassins, Birds end up 13-3
5. RAVING MAD DAWGS http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1658
MAD DAWGS beat Cape Canaveral but loose to Philly, Crusaders and Assassins. They go 13-3 and end up in the 5th seed due to tie breakers.
6. Thundertown Brawlers http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1422
Thundertown could finish anywhere between 2nd and 6th. I'm putting them at the lower end of that spectrum due to two things. One, they are starting the season with the lowest chemistry of all the top tier teams and... Two, I have the least confidence in their offensive line among that bunch. Getting Murder, Inc., MAD DAWGS, Cape Canaveral and B.C. all in the first half of the season is brutal when you enter the new schedule with only 61 overall chemistry. A very good 12-4 (assuming they handle Murder, Inc.) should put fear into the #3 seed, whoever it is.
7. Astoria Freedom Yoaches http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1045
Just a gut feeling but I'm chalking up Astoria's fairly disappointing preseason to trying to nail down the AI. They've got a winnable inter conference game against the Viktors and the schedule is a little agreeable from there on out. Drawing Death Valley in the last game helps them some as I think they will have surpassed the Reapers at that point in the season. Astoria finishes 10-6.
8. Death Valley Reapers http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=72
At first glance they have a very impressive starting roster but digging deeper a lot of these starters will be backed up by in large by CPU players of almost equal level, who I'm guessing will be playing mostly special teams. They lucked out when they drew Sebring and Port City early in the season, other wise I probably would have picked them 10th. Preseason games(which should be taken with a grain of salt) other than a nice win over Murder, Inc. haven't shown me anything to make me think otherwise. The second half of the season will be trying in Death Valley, I can see them finishing at 8-8.
9. Port City Mosquitos http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=5
At some point this was the fifth team created in GLB history... I'd love to hear the back story if any one on the team knows it, unfortunately they look like the 9th best team in the conference right now. Quality competitors starting on both sides of the ball and good depth at almost every position they are just a little outmatched in talent by the top half of the conference. The Port City/Sebring match up will be one to watch, should be a great game but I'm going to go with Port City as their subs should fare a little better. So Port City finishes the season 8-8 and will fight hard for a spot in the playoffs but won't get in due to a head to head loss against Death Valley.
10. SEBRING GECKO S http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1154
The Feebs have a long history with this team, somehow we keep ending up in the same league time and time again. Back in the day they made us eat our lunch... it looks like they'll be fighting for their lunch money these days. It doesn't appear they've tried to upgrade their roster much even with the move to BB1, 7-9.
11. Las Vegas Jokers http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1501
No joke, Las Vegas has some very nice players and a fairly competitive starting roster. A lack of depth at some key positions and an abundance of CPU players means they will struggle against the higher tier teams and especially later in the season. Plus they aren't getting any breaks with drawing the Houston Spartans as the inter conference match up. Over all record looks like 4-12.
12. Marblehead Shorthorns http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=42
Don't be fooled by the Shorthorns, they have some nice players hidden from the public eye. There's still some huge holes to fill but don't buy the "team full of mid level 20 starters" shtick. They'll crush Manchester in week 14 if things don't change and end the season somewhere around 4-12.
13. Manchester Mustangs http://goallineblitz.com/game/roster.pl?team_id=925
They've got some good building blocks but the roster is far from complete at this point. Twenty nine players as of right now, nine of which are CPU. What you have now will pull out wins over Yuma and the Caps but the CPU players don't get any better. If you don't pick up some more real players the Stars might beat you in week 15 and shoot to number 13 at the end of the season. 3-13, maybe 4-12 if you don't get help quick.
14. Hollywood Stars http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1532
Sorely out leveled by the majority of this league they got the luck of the draw and play the Eastern Conference Flint Rats in the season opener. My advise is take the opportunity to pump up your ticket prices a bit and make a little money off of the boosted ticket sales from the fan support after the win. Do the same in weeks 5 and 12, you don't have much else to look forward to this season. 3-13 is written in stone at this point.
15. Washington Caps http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1392
It looks like you just missed out on getting a 13 cap team. The good news is you kill the Fokkers and maybe give a game to Hollywood, the rest of the news is just bad. The only predictions I'll safely say I guarantee are yours, Yuma's and maybe Hollywood's depending on what happens with the Mustangs. You'll go 1-15.
16. Yuma Fokkers http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=984
It looks like a slow build team of level ones, not sure how you guys ended up in the highest average level BBB team in GLB but I hope you're patient and just want to have some fun this season. Take your 0-16 record and wear it like a badge of honor, I would.
BTW, a little disclaimer. 2-6 was a complete toss up and I had to go with the lowest common denominators... scouting bars, scrimmages and hearsay. Sorry for that but it's really all I had to go on. Good luck to everyone.
