For example, if a FS has a 25% chance to deflect a pass, with this ability, he would have a .25 + .45*.25 = .3625 or 36.25% chance.

3rd Down Stopper - +3% chance to deflect a pass on 3rd and 4th down.
Maxed - +45% chance to deflect a pass on 3rd and 4th down.

For example, a FS has a 25% chance to deflect a pass, with this ability, he would have a .25*1.45 = 36.25% chance ONLY on 3rd and 4th down.

If the percentages were raised to 40%:
LR - .4 + .45*.4 = .58 or 58%
3rd - .4 * 1.45 = .58 or 58% ONLY on 3rd/4th Down.

If I am doing this math correctly, there is ZERO reason to ever take 3rd Down Stopper.

You have it wrong. Long Reach gives you a second chance to deflect the pass. For example. If you have a 25% chance to deflect the ball, a maxed out Long Reach would allow you an additional 25% roll if you miss it the first time.

It kinda like this. Your CB jumps in the air to deflect a ball. He has the original 25% chance to hit it with his right hand. If he missed it, Long Reach allows you a 45% chance to raise your left hand in the air for a 25% chance to hit it. You Follow?

If you have a 45% chance at a re-roll a 25% deflection rate, that's an extra 11.25% added to the initial 25%.

so, 25% of the time you PD the ball initially while 11.25% of the time you PD it after the first roll for a total of 33.25%

originally I didn't double check his math, now I did. You'd be getting a slight advantage.

At 40%, i believe it's 51 vs 58%. And 50% PD rate it gets bigger.

if your CB isn't good at PDs, 3rd down stopper over long reach is dumb. But if he is good, you could justify one over the other

if you stack the 2 together, it would be:

33.25% on 1st and 2nd down

46% or so on 3rd and 4th down. Not bad from a 25% starting point. TBH, I think all CBs should combine these two.
