ok I've got some numbers as well

renteria was the worst defensive SS in the AL last season costing the tigers 16 runs because of his lack of range

everett was the best defensive SS in the AL last season

16 runs is a lot to give up

the offensive change from renteria to everett mathematically will help us, everett isn't a huge downgrade from renteria and he's going to save us runs, the difference between their offensive numbers will be worth it as to what everett brings defensively, right now the tigers have one of the top defensive left sides

I HATED Renteria, so don't use Renteria as the comparison, he wouldnt' have been my SS last year if it was up to me. But the point is that Everett is such a weak hitter that the defense doesn't make up for it. And you are using out of context numbers here, if you could have told me BEFORE last season that Renteria would be dead last in defense and Everett would be #1, then that changes everything, the statistical odds of those 2 things happening were very unlikely at the time and not factored into the evaluation, because historically Renteria has always been better than dead last and historically Everett has always been worse than #1.

But again, this convo has NOTHING to do with Renteria, cause we have guys in the minor leagues that are better than him, and cheaper. He's STILL better than Everett, but that doesn't mean we need to debate Renteria as if he would be the guy, because he's overpriced and inefficient as a ball player at every part off the game plus he's aging.
