In the interests of science I decided to go all out to find if it was possible to build a receiving TE that wasn't a speed/agility monster.

Logic essentially went that instead of getting into an arms race with LBs in spd/agi to pump catching/vision/jumping etc. On the idea that it might be possible to get to the point where even running next to them he'd be so far ahead of them in those stats they couldn't cover him.

As I understand it QBs look first for open receivers, then to biggest mismatches, so if a receiver is open they get it but if no-one's open he's likely to be a dump off option and be consistently good for 5-10 yard gains when needed. A side result of this would be he'd get low stats vs gut jobs since WRs would be open a lot and he wouldn't be.

Current build is

Attributes
Physical Attributes
Strength: 22
Speed: 16.38
Agility: 17.38
Jumping: 24
Stamina: 21.38
Vision: 61
Confidence: 13.38

Football Skills
Blocking: 21
Catching: 83
Tackling: 13.38
Throwing: 9
Carrying: 13.38
Kicking: 8
Punting: 9

Special Abilities
Blocking Abilities
Run Block: 0
Pass Block: 0
Hands: 0
Get Low: 0
Pancake: 0

Receiving Abilities
Route Running: 1
Sticky Hands: 1
Quick Cut: 1
Cover Up: 1
Lower the Shoulder: 1

Equipment, some in stamina, +2 in catching and Catch ball chance +6% and +6 in catching and +1 receiving tree from CE.

Season stats on a fairly dominant team in BBB (averages 44 rushes and 30 pass attempts a game) were
Season Games Rec Yds Y/G Y/R YAC YAC/C TD Drops
8 15 33 307.5 20.5 9.3 73 2.2 1 2

In team context he's 3rd in receptions behind the starting WRs (about 10 behind, both of them having double digit drops) and 4th in yards (by 90, 390, 550).

Have to say I'm stuck between capping jumping next, or just training spd/agi then first capping them and leaving them there to level up and come back to main three attributes.

Will keep you updated, try and find out if this is a viable build.

Keep us updated indeed, I might go with Agility over Speed before Jumping.. only because you dont get level gains for jumping so it wouldnt matter if you did it sooner. However putting only jumping can make you a bigger target.

Slight update, after 2 games of having vision past 60 it seems to have made a real difference, will see if it continues. All figures are a little skewed since it's in a BBB league where we're among a couple of dominant teams, but not outlevelling them.

Ran a lot of plays as 5th WR but was being covered by the MLB so not huge difference there.

The main advantage is that all catches seem to be first time and clean. A lot of PDs etc oftem come from the catcher bobbling it and the defender coming in and knocking it away, with a clean catch this doesn't happen. Defenders who don't play close and aggressive will give up a lot of short gains on them. Also I suspect it means that he doesn't need to be as open as other players to make catches regularly.

Most common catch is this sort of play (sometimes into double coverage).

or a quick out when the LBs blitz.

Haven't really examined it but I don't remember seeing a lot of PDs (except a couple where he's caught them anyway) so I suspect the high vision/catching means my anti-deflection roll is outdoing typical LBs to such an extent they're very unlikely.

A case of of so far so good, and if you're going to pump catching early suggestion is vision is very beneficial to go along with it. Not really feeling terrible damage from 17.5 spd and 18.5 agi. I suspect that it's a case of if you're not going to be significantly ahead of them in those stats they're fairly pointless because otherwise they'll run at your speed. Likewise 13.5 carrying seems to be having no bad effects at all. Jumping at 24 (product of training it with stamina). So hard to say if it's really needed or not. Leaning towards first capping speed and agility to gain some level bonuses.

Determined not to do more than first cap speed, may eventually take agility higher, but both will stay fairly low on the agenda.

I'm optimistic, will keep updating. Probably far more often than anyone's really interested in

Looks really good so far.

I'd go with a bit more speed agility, perhaps just to first cap. If he's getting a slight burst off the line, that extra half a yard or yard he got more than he used to could mean he's open that little bit sooner off the LOS
