OK... he won his league championship last season.

He's way ahead of anybody in GLB this season (as far as I can see).

Sayle O. VerHedd
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=565911
Punting Average: 46.9 yards/punt
Net Punting: 41.7 yards/punt (that's more than most of USPro punters average total!)
Touchbacks: 0
Inside the 20: 20/35 (57%)

He's only level 45, his build is pretty average (nothing but punting and confidence to the 2nd cap).

Yes, his team is good, thus the low return yardage rate, but there is something else about him... any suggestions?

I'd love to replicate him with my other punters.

No, it isn't. Prefer to keep it that way. Just wondering if anyone had other theories to his success. Thought I presented enough of his build info to show he's not extraordinary in any way.

My personal theory is "balance". If you have punting, confidence, vision, agility, strength, jumping, speed in the right ratio...

Low season 7 and 8 sample sizes leads me to think it is variance. But if you believe he has actually improved, just see what you did from season 7 to 8

Last season:

Gross Average: 45.4 yards/punt (good)
Reported Average: 42.3
Net Average: 36.0
Touchbacks: 3
Inside the 20: 14/27 (51.9%)

He improved, but mainly because of the extra TBs. But that is still one heck of a year for a 30 something punter.

Low sample size may be legit. However, we're looking at about 60 punts and pretty consistent higher than average record.

This is something I've been wondering about lately. CPU punters have very low punting bars but high overall bars and end up with some pretty decent averages, considering their weak punting stat. I wonder if capping jumping/agility/speed is a more beneficial build than doubling vision or tripling strength, etc.

I'm still gonna double-cap strength first, but I'm thinking I should cap other minors soon to really dominate.

60 is a ridiculously low sample size...not sure what your margin of error would be, but it would be considerably high for such a small sample size...it is VERY likely sample variance

I think that's the way to go, and it's supported by Octowned's analysis. But if you think about it, if many different attributes affect a punter's ability it makes more sense to spend 24SP to move a stat from 24 to 48 than spending that same amount to get another from 60 to 68 (or 68 to 74)

Better keep that Punter build secret! Wouldn't want a rash of copy cat punters out there doing crazy things like getting a coffin corner most of the time or something.

If you look around, you'll find that I've posted lots of builds and given my general philosophy on building punters quite freely. If what I think is true, the build of this particular punter might lead to insights that could be very valuable to other positions. That's when I give a bit more than a flying skidoo.

Maybe that simple. I have 20 punters, odds are that one is going to be out of the statistical prediction. If it had been an odd build (high jumping, for instance), I'd be a lot more excited, but this guy is pretty normal.

I've heard talk of a secret "luck" or "talent" stat.

Just speculation and rumor. People love their conspiracy theories.
