My team's safeties are always there to contest the catch. So I have to disagree with you there.

Show me a few cover 2 replays with more than one type of pass play. Where they are always there please. I can see it if the certain pass play happens to go there way. But a cover 2 is a FS/SS zone not man. If the WR's,TE's and HB's are going other routes. With the Cover 2 in GLB the FS/SS just go to that spot or run to the spot where they always do.

Also to add, I'm usually just watching mid-level replays. Lvl21-34. So maybe the mid level guys like that don't have the vision the LVL 40 and LVL 50 guys to run a productive Cover 2

My team's defense has just one guy over level 40, so we are fairly mid level as well. We're mostly in the 30-40 range.

Both safeties were just fine there

They were good in coverage there, too. The pass was thrown underneath, hence why the FS wasn't in the area

I'm happy with how they did there, too. Again the pass was thrown underneath.

And again, the safeties in coverage deep encourages the QB to throw the pass underneath

Why they should keep throwing undernearth instead of trying to throw long - the safety was right there.

And another deeper pass, and this time the SS gets credit for a PD. Long passes are hard to complete against the 2 deep.

A shorter pass, but the FS jumped it nicely and got the PD. Sometimes the short passes still have the safeties messing them up.

This time they complete the underneath pass

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=413365&pbp_id=5879285
The FS jumped too far to the outside there, got beat to the inside

Those are some replays from just the first quarter of my team's last game (a game against a legit opponent).

http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=413365
and
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=413363

are both games this season where my team's defense did a good job against a good opponent, holding them to 3.9 and 4.1 yards per pass attempt

my team's safeties have done plenty against mid length passes, and racked up a lot of PD's this season, and as one of the replays from above shows, they aren't all on the long passes

What I said above was incorrect - they aren't there to contest the short passes. But on mid length or longer passes, they are there to contest the catch, not just tackle the guy afterward.

Cover 2 is good against long passes to the outside, and decent against defending pitch plays if you have a run focus.

I'm more of a cover 1 fan, and cover 0 in some situations.
