Is closing speed a good AE for a MLB? If not what is the best option for a MLB?

I got it... on my 49 MLB. It is up to +4 now.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=373371&pbp_id=4717168 (looks like it triggered)
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=373371&pbp_id=4718986 (I do not think it did)

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=373461&pbp_id=3789831 (despite the missed tackle it looks like it triggers)

Those are just two from last game

I am unsure of its real effect though. I know my pds have gone up though which Is most likely due to closing speed. I am pretty sure that it still counts a drop due to a tackle a pass deflection.

I have two ranks in CS on my linebacker and it really makes a difference when the play is run to the opposite side. The "slowdown" he experiences after it disengages is disappointing, though. If you play alot of coverage, I would definitely endorse it.

Depends on the scheme. Closing speed isn't gonna help if you are taking on a lot of linemen.

Closing speed is useful when the HB is trying to beat you to the sideline on an outside run. It won't trigger against a powerback running between the tackles, but it will be useful against elusive/speed backs.

Great for all outside runs and against teams that use short passes. Definitely one of my top choices for a LB.

My level 17 LB has 7 hurries already, with his +2 closing speed gear. I'm wondering if it activates when blitzing the QB?

Nope. Bort has confirmed directly that the QB does not count as a ball-carrier until he crosses the LOS. SO closing spped only fires when the QB has ball IF he has already gained yardage.

HB getting a handoff behind the LOS count as ball carriers and the Closing Speed will fire off in that situation however.

For a MLB I don't think it's that useful because it won't fire on runs up the middle (like gabrielrockman said). Now if he played outside a lot...

MLB's still stop runs to the outside, too, so it is useful. It's also useful against stopping screen passes, which are quite similar to outside runs. You can't expect the ROLB to be the only LB involved in stopping a run to the strong side.

This contradicts what sbuck143 just said: "HB getting a handoff behind the LOS count as ball carriers and the Closing Speed will fire off in that situation however."

Why wouldn't an inside run count as a HB getting a handoff behind the LOS?
