The newly established CCC League has teams and players looking to establish themselves early as legitimate organizations and playoff contenders. After game three wrapped up on Tuesday, it is safe to say one of the teams appearing to be a threat is the Cape Cod Jagged Shoals. One of those players is feature back Fred Jackson.
The Shoals have started the season hot on both sides of the ball, players showing up in the top 3 statistically in many categories.
The Shoals defense has allowed just 213 rushing yards in the first three games, with league sack leader William Perry making noise up front and leading the defense along with cornerback Boss Billups, free safety Grand Larceny, and strong safety Donte Whitner. The third game marked the first time the unit has allowed a touchdown, with only two on the season as well as three field goals made by opposing teams.
Cape Cod's ground game has been dominant through all three contests, racking up 729 yards rushing. The now two (formerly three) back tandem consists of Fred Jackson and Packin Wang, a duo defenses need to gameplan for.
Wang has notched 195 yds on 38 carries over three games, with two touchdowns averaging 5.1 yds a carry. A stout and stubborn runner, Packin has caused problems for defenders when it comes to going down on the first hit. He's becoming one of the league's premier power runners, while also showing his versatility with 4 catches for 32 yds.
After the game, Jackson spoke out about his team and how happy he is with their success.
"It's always great to get ahead early and have a good start to your season ya feel me. From da start it was kinda easy to feel you know where da play was goin, we was able to bond real early and find what we do best you feel me."
Jackson leads the team in rushing yds with 320.5 on 65 carries with a 4.9 average and 2 TDs. He sits at 3rd in the league for career rushing yds with 4 less games played than the #1 and #2 RBs, and holds the highest rush yds/g with 106.8.
"Oh you know I jus get out there an do my thang feel me. Das a little bit a Beast Mode right dere you know, das the mindset my boy Marshawn taught me up in Buffalo. You jus can't go down from one linebacker smackin into you ya feel me, jus get in dat Beast Mode and get dat yardage man. Course I couldn't do how I do if those big dudes up front wasn't takin care of me and showin me dat open field. Also you can't forget my brah Packin Wang always dere to do his thang too. Me an him it's like there ain't any first or second string you feel me. Das a mean set of legs, I seen him carry three dudes fo like 8 yards. It ain't the same if you don't got someone you know who can come in and produce you know, it's nice to have Pack cuz I know I can come off an he can do everythang jus as good an get dem yards."
The Shoals face their greatest contest in upcoming game 4 against the also undefeated Miami Sharks. They look to continue their streak and improve their passing game, possibly opening up the offense with more spread sets and intermediate routes, which could allow the newly signed QB Makaveli Shakur some room to move and get some yards off the edge or on the draw.
