Anyone have thoughts on Bruiser or Short Yd Monster for power backs? Is Short Yd even necessary since it is a 2% gain and Bruiser is 3%? Or does Bruiser not trigger behind the LOS?

Ive been using bruiser. Ive been breaking tackles for like 60+yard TD's. I dont see a reason to get SYM unless your guy isnt very good at breaking tackles for big gains.

Im not saying it wouldnt be useful but its just not something im interested in using at this point for myself

If your constantly getting hit in the backfield it's time to find a new team with a decent o-line imo.

Get Bruiser as high as possible ASAP. Short Yardage Monster's importance is sort of minimal unless you're strictly a short-yardage back. Getting a 1st on 3rd/4th and short might mean breaking a tackle or two in the backfield.

But, if you're a power RB used on all downs, there are much more important VAs.

I would think (I'm not 100% sure) the 2% bonus and the 3% bonus will work together. "Bruiser" gives no indication it only works in front of the LOS.

Thanks - I was thinking along the same lines. I'm still not sure why SYM would ever be worthwhile - it isn't like it is cheaper like a Lower Shoulder -> Power Thru progression.

Take a look at the ravens. Look at Willis McGahee then look and Le'Ron Mclain. Willis is an everydown semi powerful back. McClain is in on the goal line and on short yardage. Willis avrages like 4.5 and leRon avrages like 2. all 20something-30 TDs by willis was from the 40-5. All 8 except 2 TDs by McClain were made on the Goal line.

Yeah, I get the real-life differences, I just don't see the GLB logic in a short yardage/behind the LOS 2% gain when you could get a 3% gain anywhere on the field.

what is the usual route for power backs for SA's?

I know bruiser but then what. Would it be workout warrior then track star?

Workout warrior before Bruiser imo.
but if you max both makes no difference. I agree with track star right after that if you have more than 60 speed.

It's because you have to run on 50% power. I'm thinking about getting Short Yard Monster for my elusive/combo back because last season 10% of his runs were TFL, but if he gets away from that first tackle, watch out because he can outrun everyone on the field. So, my thinking is that if I can minimize his TFL's, he'll have a better chance to break off some big runs. But running on 50% power is NOT an option for my guy, so "Bruiser" is out. Same goes for "Slippery" on the other end of the scale. My guy runs best at zero. Too bad they don't just have a "break tackle" VA that isn't dependent upon where your slider bar is located.

I disagree. I think the optimal Power HB VA order is Bruiser -> Workout Warrior -> Track Star (as long as Speed is 60+). I take Bruiser before WW because I noticed a huge difference when I added on Bruiser, I started breaking tackles left and right, my broken tackles/game doubled. When I added WW first (prior to a reset when I switched to Bruiser), I didn't notice as big of a difference. There were a few more broken tackles, but nowhere near the increase of Bruiser.

However, my logic only applies if you have a good amount of points in SA's to increase your tackle-breaking chance. When I first put 15 in Bruiser, my HB had 9 in Power Through and 7 in Lower the Shoulder (now 11 in both).
