What causes them?

100+ punting, high confidence, and IMHO some combo of vision/strength. It appears that the coffin corners go way further than normal punts, so if you trigger a coffin from within your own 25 and have the right build it'll go out of bounds within their 20.

Punting with the wind. Remember the wind always blows from the bottom of your screen up.

You know, I've never even thought about wind in GLB until you just posted that.

Weather conditions would really be a nice tweak to the game. Have to adjust your game based on where you are playing and the weather. If every team could dictate whether they play in a dome or not, and the prevailing climate if not in a dome. Or even just use the weather of the cities of the teams.

Is there some reason that coffin corner punts go so much further than regular punts? It's quite annoying to see my guy blast in in the air for 10+ yards more on a coffin corner or drop on the one punt than in a straight away punt.

If he's trying to kick it higher than further, I'd like to be able to change that in tactics - 10 more yards in distance would be better even if I give up 5 yards in return because of it.

Yeah its pretty much a bug in the game, but since we don't get feedback anymore on special teams bugs it's just part of the game until it gets worked on. Therefore coffin corners are the best thing your punter can do, due to the inability to return it + the distance boost. Hence Vision > Strength currently in my opinion.

Although we don't have solid proof about what vision ( or anything else does ). I noticed a marked improvement in coffin corner attempts going from 20 vision to 50. Probably tripled my coffin style punts ( regardless of success ).

I suspect that the reason coffin corners are longer then regular punts is because they require a high initial roll for confidence/vision which is then attributed to the punt, meaning that your personal best punts will tend to be coffin corners. Combine that with the fact that coffin corners can bounce a good 5-10yrds before going out of bounds and you have pretty solid reasoning why they are so game breaking currently.

I'll second this. I went from vision 25 to vision 52 overnight, and my coffin corner ATTEMPTS went up. However I've still shanked plenty of attempts (20 yard coffin corner punts that went out of bounds at the 20), despite 70 confidence (calm nerves?), and I have a very high rate of touchbacks where I seemily nudge the corner pylon and barely miss a pin inside the 1.

This is a very solid point, but makes me wonder about when you are too far away for the sim to even CONSIDER a coffin corner (ex: punt from your own 10). Punts back here could get an extremely high vision/confidence roll, but the sim would still say "not gonna coffin corner, that's 100 yards away," yet I consistently see 35 yard punts from great punters when pinned deep in their own territory (and yes, with 10 calm nerves, so I doubt that explains it either).

The bounce part of it is an especially good point, though.

Yeah it's due to the z-axis difference between coffin corners and regular punts.
