Congrats to the Philadelphia Birds, Steel City, Myrtle Beach and Louisiana State on advancing to the second round.
Congrats to Idaho, Detroit, Sleepy Hollow and Iowa in advancing to the conference championships in the West and East, respectively and therefore up to A6 next season. Some other teams may be joining them (if the realignment occurs like previous seasons, but these four are definitely gone.)
This is where we tell the men from the boys, conference championship week. Who gets at least one team award on their way up to A6 and who goes home awardless.
(Regular Season Matchup results)
East
#2 Iowa Hogeyes at #1 Sleepy Hollow Horsemen (Sleepy Hollow, 41-40)
Sleepy Hollow reached the Eastern Championship game by holding the Carnage potent run game in check and blanking them, 41-0 behind a balanced offensive attack. After going up 13-0 at the half, they scored another 28 unanswered in the second half to put the game away. #2 seed Iowa fell behind 17-3 in the 1st quarter to Louisiana State, but rallied back for 17 unanswered in the 2nd quarter, and held on to that lead for a 34-31 W. Iowa's powerback led the way, accounting for most of Louisiana State's 27 missed tackles in the game.
Sleepy Hollow won the week 12 matchup 41-40 in another GOTY candidate. Sleepy Hollow again utilized a balanced attack while holding the Iowa run game in check. Sleepy Hollow held Iowa to a FG on their last scoring drive, securing the game late in the 4th quarter.
Scouting Bar - Sleepy Hollow, +36 (or EVEN, depending on how ahead of game you check)
Chemistry (overall) – Sleepy Hollow, +7
West
#3 Detroit Revolvers at #1 Idaho Rex (Idaho, 22-20)
#1 Western seed Idaho took a slim 13-10 lead into the 4th quarter, but scored 13 unanswered in the 4th quarter to beat the Philadelphia Birds. Idaho's players of the game were definitely their special teams unit, which did just enough to win the game. Their D also rose up, shutting down the Philly offense. As to Detroit, after Steel City scored a 3rd quarter TD to take the lead, 23-17, Detroit scored 21 unanswered as their offense came alive and won the game, 38-23. Detroit utilized a balanced attack, a theme by most of the winning teams in these playoffs, and Steel City's plan to attack through the air fell short.
Although Steel City scored 14 points in the 4th quarter of their regular season game, it wasn't enough as Detroit won the game, 21-17 even though they lost the TO battle, 4-1.
Scouting Bar - Detroit, +3
Chemistry (overall) - Idaho, +28
