What causes a FS to do this. Mine does it quite often. He busts his ass to get to the sideline to help out with a WR but leaves the team vulnerable to a post from a slot receiver.

Is it a pump fake by the QB ?

Different FS, same goofy positioning.

Thoughts ?

It isn't your build. It's the poor method GLB handles zone coverage.

In the second play, he's just heading to his C2 Zone.

In the first, the D is playing Zone underneath as well as over the top, which just plain sucks in GLB. Your FS is stuttering as new receivers enter the zone and he tries to decide which to cover.

The first play looked more like both CB's on your side blew the coverage, so I don't know exactly how much of that was your fault. The second play was just wacky, I've never seen my safety do that before.

The only thing I can say is that vision, superior vision, and zone spec might help you "jump the route" of the other guy and get a pass deflection or 2. I can't be sure on that though. I'd agree that it's mostly a GLB thing.

On the first play it was definitely pump fakes.

Second play was just a zone pathing problem

Yup, second play is just him moving to his assigned zone, the SS would have mirrored the movement if he didn't blitz.

It's not build, it's simple football positioning.

Cover 2 figuratively splits the field in deep halves for the two safeties, and his first responsibility is deep on his left side of the middle of the field. If anything the build showed he was decent enough to make an effort to stop the wide open receiver.. it certainly wasn't his responsibility, and the dots are programmed to follow the play guidelines.. Even most real safeties would probably follow those guidelines and give up the same result
