I couldn't disagree with that sentiment more. Referee calls are never a good excuse for losing a game, but it does happen and it's not within the players' control when it does happen. It's luck of the draw mainly, and there's no reason for the refs to make sooo many mistakes, it's just a terrible flaw in the design of the NFL game within their rules and operations which don't correctly safeguard for mistakes to happen. It's very easy to design a system of rules that takes out certain types of mistakes that the officiating crew make on a routine and regular basis.

It's just like investing into a poorly diversified stock portfolio when you are taking on certain categories of industry specific risk of which you don't get paid for, but are within your control of the portfolio, you can make those type of risks flat out disappear and cancel out.

Grats to the Steelers... But that was an ugly-officiated superbowl.

I guess its fitting for such a badly officiated season.

At least it was exciting.

Only calls I disagreed on was the Steelers safety and possibly the block in the back during the Harrison INT TD. Everything else is just grabbing at straws imo.

I thought the holding call that led to the safety was pretty blatant. Stapleton (or was it Kemoeatu, their other crappy OG?) pretty much dragged Dockett to the ground.

really? I don't think he should have been thrown out of the game, but he did hit the dude 3 times in succession without any provocation that I could see:

1. open hand punch to the guy's back when he was down on his knees
2. as soon as he tried to stand up, Harrison rocked him back pretty violently
3. when he finally stood up, Harrison pushed him in the chest

I always thought that was called blocking? It was on an Arizona punt IIRC. If they called a penalty everytime a player pushed another player, the game would still be going on right now. lol

Now, if Harrison had done this to some random Cardinal on the field and not to the guy he was blocking, I could see the roughness call. He blocked his man to the ground and kept him out of the play...perfectly acceptable and exactly what a coach wants you to do.

Joe, he kept on hitting the guy after the play and last time I checked, punching someone in the back did not count as blocking.

LOL finally a Steelers fan can admit there was a blantant block in the back on that return. All the other Pitt fans seem to be in denial about that but what can I say, the referees are there to get paid and take shit from us about bad calls.

Can you blame pitt fans? We haven't stopped hearing about how we literally paid the refs during SB XL by the seahawks fans. Anytime we, as steelers fans, hear anyone criticize the refs it's because they say that we literally paid them off. While I have absolutely no problem in people giving refs shit for bad calls, it's taking it too far by saying any team, let alone the Steelers paid refs. It's pure idiocy and immaturity.

Someone always gets caught for retaliating, just saying.

The center got run over right as ben threw the ball. I'm sorry but getting run over is different than holding.

TBH, the only reason people think Refs helped you win this Superbowl was because it was a really close game, and the Ref calls made a big difference.

If the Steelers dominated the game like they were supposed to, and like everybody expected them to, there would be no talk at all. But the fact that they nearly lost the game makes it a hot topic.

tbh I didn't think it should have been holding on the center, but the RG DEFINITELY was holding. He got burned and wrapped his arm around the guy. It is just that no one saw that due to the center getting jacked up.

tbh, anyone in there right mind knew in all likely hood that this wasn't going to be a blowout for either side.

I didn't think it was going to be a blow out but that first quarter had me thinking it could get out of hand.
