I'm running 4-2-5 nickel cover 1, man, short, pass, strong side shift

I wanted to be able to stop this play without putting my defense in position to get burned with the pass. However, when the play ran my LO and SS ran in the wrong direction. No one is set to blitz. What is the best way to defend against this formation?

Here is a similar play. It appears that the LO is going to cover the slot. How can I stop that?

From what I understand, in a cover 1 man, your SS and LOLB would be in man coverage--I believe both on the TE. Your LB shouldnt be covering a WR. So I dont believe they're running to the weak side because of the scheme.

Perhaps they failed vision checks and misread the rusher?

One thing you could try is going with a cover 2. This will put your SS in a zone over the strong side and put your LOLB in man coverage with the TE.

This will keep them on the strong side...but with 22 vision, dont expect your LOLB to diagnose plays well.

I challenge everyone to go to their last game and filter by run, pitch right to find this play (Single Back, HB Pitch Strong). I've looked around and all the LO's I see are doing this the past game when running the 4-2-5 defense. I'm probably wrong, but could this be a bug?

The 4-3 seems to work, but it leaves a wr wide open

Send the SS on a Blitz, if he can tackle that RB will never pass the LOS, also love the avatar GO BLUE!

Vision vision vision. More vision means they read the play and head to the point of attack much faster. Get both the LOLB and SS vision capped.

3-3-5 Nickel, cover 1, SS in man, & with a strongside shift. The SS will cover the TE blitz the LOLB.
