I think it probably has to do with trying to knock the ball out of the receiver's hands after he's made his catch roll. Just a guess, though.
you do realize you don't want the quarterback throwing to your receiver right? Why intentionally lower your speed agility and vision, to "bate" the quarterback to throw it to the guy you're covering. Then their are higher chances of being burned.
Either you shut a guy down completely, or he gets thrown to 10 to 15 times a game. and even if you pass deflected 13 and intercepted 1, the 15th would go for 80 yards and a score. and that's being generous.
