My opponent likes to run out of the single back formation with 3 WR's and pass long out of the power I getting the cb's to bite.

How would you stop this? I am running a 4-3.

I was thinking of blitzing the SS and MLB or both in the single back formation and doubling the WR's in the power I formation with the SS and FS.

What percentages would I need to blitz the SS or the MLB. Would it be 100% for both? Would that make it random blitzing? Thanks from the newbie.

Singleback - Yes good idea to blitz MLB/SS, strong side shift would be best idea. If you want them to blitz every time that formation comes out, then set your play up for maximum 2 blitzers, and set MLB and SS to 100%.

For starters I would run a 4-2-5 Nickel against Single Back or you'll get burned when they pass and I've never seen any passes out of the "Power I" formation???? Do you have an example?

My bad, I meant the strong I. I think that's this formation.

Here is another example but I formation:

Don't blitz the MLB out of the 4-2-6. No one will cover the HB if he goes out for a pass.

I prefer blitzing the SS with a strong LB shift. The SS eats a block where the play is going and forces the HB towards either of the LBs.

I ran the Engage eight against the single back 3 wr set. Worked great against the run but left the TE open and he burned us for 14 catches, 191 yards, and 2 TD's! We lost 48 - 24.

Next time I have to figure out how to cover the TE probably with the safety and not focus on the run so much.

If you are concerned about the TE in a route, run a Cover 1. It brings the SS closer to the line. This has a dual benefit in that he is closer to the TE [his coverage assignment] and can offer better run support.
