Forum > Position Talk > Safety Club > Which piece of AEQ should I choose for my SS?

After a seemingly infinite number of rolls, I finally have a decent piece of AEQ to buy. Problem is, I don't have just one. I actually have three.

+2 agility
+1 First Step SA

-or-

+1 Superior Vision SA

-or-

+1 Blitz SA

I've pretty much eliminated SV because it's so low on the SS tree, and is plenty easy enough to boost with SP. Both of the other two are unavailable to SS without AEQ, and both seem like a great fit.

My SS gets to blitz pretty often. I'm leaning toward +1 Blitz because it kicks in on every blitz, whereas First Step indicates the increase of the chance for the skill to take effect. So while It could be used both when blitzing or not, there is no guarantee that it will necessarily work at any given time. The extra 2 points of agility are a nice bonus though...

Anyone have any thoughts?

I got one that gave +1 Closing Speed. It's good because it's the last in the tree and takes a lot of points to pump up.

+2 agility is pretty damn sweet!

Figure it as SP equivalence, and then decide:

* 2 agility = 4/6/8 SP depending on how high you took it
* at your level, fully upgraded, you'll get +3 SA, which is 4 SP for one that you can't get (L3)
* for super vision, that +3 can be worth as much as 14 SP (super vision's 8th-10th points, not counting the SP you save in prerequisites)
* obviously, you can continue this math to L40 and +4 or L56 and +5

How many SP is each otherwise-unavailable SA worth to you?

I found one of these for a FS. Was quite pleased to say the least.

Is SV @ SS such a big deal that I'll want it maxed out? I honestly have no idea. He's my first SS, and he's way too young to have pumped SAs yet.

That's why I said "as much as"--I can certainly see taking SV to 6+4 (or 5+4+1) @ 40 as an entirely reasonable investment of points, but you're not there yet. You can figure a lowball estimate based on your current level of SV (so at least 4 SP even if you have no points there) and an upper bound based on, say, the 5+4+1 case (where you treat the AE as your 6th through 9th points in SV--and incidentally also treat the CE as your 6th point. Marginal costs get weird...)

The key point is, with gear that increases an in-position SA, you have some target level in mind for that SA, and the gear saves you points from the top. With gear that grants you an out-of-position SA, the gear generates points from the bottom. This typically means that the gear for the in-position SA will be worth more skill points.

This is just how I'd look at the quantitative side of things before making a judgment call about the utility of First Step or Blitz on a SS. "Is it good?" is a much tougher question than "Is it worth X skill points, compared to this other option?"

Thanks for the well thought out replies. I'm not so certain my first inclination to dismiss the SV piece was terribly sound thinking on my part..
