With the new z axis, I found out that my KR/PR let the ball bounce before fielding it. I noticed a few other kr caught them on the fly. What stat does my KR need to improve to stop waiting for the bounce? Is it catching? Confidence? Carrying? Vision?

No amount of vision or confidence or anythin will help it seems to be a bug right now

Just depends on the kick.

indeed, it appears some kicks still bounce, but most are taken on the fly now. that's too bad, I thought it was kind of a neat touch that low catching guys would let it bounce first.

Catching has nothing to do with getting in position to catch the ball.

no, but if you know you can't catch it, you are gonna let it bounce to make it easier.

Catching is for catching, you don't need to be a good catcher to field a kick return. You don't need catching.

or vision. the point wasn't that I think you should be required to have catching to return kicks. the point was that i thought there was an aspect of the return game that required a guy to build properly to take the ball on the fly, and that I was disappointed to learn that it was just a bug.

No, it is not a bug. Vision and confidence as I stated in my first post. My PR has never let one bounce.

Shrug, my team's kr/pr let them all bounce in game one, and without a single change to their stats, they didn't let any bounce in game 2. Check the changelog. Bort changed the way it works. It sure looks like nobody should be letting them bounce anymore.

I think it may actually have more to do with the kicker. If its a kicker with a big boot who line drives it, it's gonna bounce no matter what you do. If its a punter with hangtime who lofts a fly ball, he's gonna catch it no matter what you do.

That's true, but with high vision and confidence your returner will catch it at the optimal time. (So it's not always possible to field it before bouncing but high vision and confidence will allow your return man to field the ball when it is first possible)
