Now. Then start training your second attribute on intense. Either continue to take speed up via SP or once you can cap the next attribute, spend the SP.

Keep in mind, the higher you take your speed now, the higher it will be later on.

What if you're training spd/agi on intense. Wouldn't it be beneficial to wait till you can soft cap both of them at the same time, so say the end of season 1?

The extra SP gained from training when the stats are low, outweighs the SP gained from each level up at the 2:1 cap.

Then it seems like if you go into season 2 without spending any SP, the levels don't happen as often, so for each level that you put off spending a single SP, the greater the gain from training on intense. Maybe keep training until you have enough SP to bring both stats up to the 3:1 cap at the same time?

Never really done a slow build like this before, but I'm seriously debating about doing it with my WR. Problem would be finding a team in the 2nd season to give me playing time with marginal production to show for it.

I don't get slow building. Why hold SP til added up they get to the soft cap? Might as well hold onto them until you can get to the 2nd or 3rd cap. That way would be much better in the end. But I guess no one likes that, so idk. Might as well train speed til playoffs or if your team wont make it then there is no reason so spend the SP now.

It takes less time to train an attribute 1 full point at a lower level than a higher level. If you attribute is at level 8, it might take 1 training session to up it by one, where as if you are at 47 attribute it might take you 10 training sessions to raise it 1. By saving your SP until you can cap it, it allows you to train at the more efficient training rate.

Example: If you have base 20 attribute and you have 25 skill points which would be more beneficial in the long term-
Training ~12 times to raise to 23 and then adding the 25 skill points to get to 48 or
Adding the 25 SP to get to 45 and training ~30 times to get to 48?

Your hold the SP until you an softcap it so that you get the natural level ups. If you have natural level ups under 48 at .33 attribute then the attribute will raise you one skill points after 3 level ups, it would cost you 1 SP to raise it on your own. If you do this after level 48 you stil get the 1 raise in attribute, but it would have cost you 2SP to raise it one point since you are over the cap essentially giving you a double bonus.
