Hey Guys,

I scanned the forums and wasn't able to find any sort of topic on this issue. I recently got told that my WR was demoted because many of the balls sent his way were deflected. I was told my catching (41.74 at lvl 30) was too low and causing this problem. Is this in fact part of catching? I'm not against working on pumping it up, but I had never heard that it affected the amount of deflections.

Let me know!

Thanks!

Whats your speed and agility to create separation? And hows the QB built? He is the one throwing the ball. I think your catching is probably fine (I have 45 @ LVL 33) but you may want to look at the rest of your build.

Tell him your QB throws shitty passes that keep getting deflected. It is commonly accepted that it is the WRs fault if he doesn't catch the ball for whatever reason until he softcaps catching. Spend the 7 SP and be done with it.

90 speed, 58 agility.

My old team ended up exploding, I always put up very good numbers. Changed teams and all of a sudden it's my fault. Ill toss points into the softcap of catching, but it doesn't seem that it should be my issue that passes are getting deflected -- unless catching meant you attacked the ball in the air.

It may be the ball is landing in your hands and the defender is deflecting it during the catching process because you are "bobbling" it. My speed guy with low catching take a visibly long time to get a ball under control before he can start running again, if he is hit during this time the balls goes to the ground.

Watch the replays. If passes are getting deflected by a back right on top of you, he may have a point. Catching seems to help with reeling a ball in when the defender is tight--that's why it is such a mainstay attribute for possession builds.

Catching does undoubtedly help you come down with the ball when targeted and well covered, which I believe answers your question.

Good day.

Then an amendment to my question is what is the magic number I should shoot for? Another 6 to hit the softcap? Or more than that?

Many will try to convince you that the "magic number" is the soft-cap. They are incorrect.

In reality there is no "magic number" for catching anymore than there is a magic number for speed or agility. More is better, but with ever SP you pour into it, there is an opportunity cost of other attributes you could have risen. It all depends on the type of player you'd like to build as well as what you believe will make him the most successful.

And while this isn't an answer to your amended question in the slightest, I'd strongly suggest never going past the 3rd softcap (68ish) in any attribute, as the opportunity cost is likely too high...
