I think QB play does erode over the course of a game due to stamina, but other players' play erodes MORE due to stamina, so over the long run it tends not to matter all that much.

Stamina loss for a QB also seems directly tied to the number of throws, though, and I think that's part of the reason why if you average 25-35 passes a game your QB will probably look fine, and if you average like 40+ throws a game your qb's completion % usually don't look too hot. But this isn't any scientifically backed thing, just random observations drawn together to a simple logical "conclusion"

I think numbers-wise most teams simply don't have the need for a backup who'll get like 8 throws a game, especially considering, as Galkuris said, most backups will be so inferior to the starter that your passing gameplan can get thrown out of whack.

Two equally talented QBs means the fresh one would give an increase to performance

This, except you looked at it wrong. It isn't that easy to find a QB with the same talent level as a 45. I've been trying for two seasons but never see the point when our current one can play an entire game, and most backups I've seen are worse in attributes.

Yes, I came from a theoretical viewpoint and you didn't. I agree, it's difficult to find someone good enough to be the backup at this level., There is little motivation to do that

I've had nearly dead even quarterbacks in a two QB system and often found when one sucked, the other sucked too (four picks by one, three by another). It makes intuitive sense that the in-game energy system would encourage the use of two quarterbacks, but I've never really seen the performance variation that backs up the theory.

This season I'm going to a one-QB system for the first time. Figure I owe it to my main guy to give him maximum opportunity for stats and fame.

do you have ANY stats to back that up?

i've got plenty of games mapped out where our QB actually played better later in the game. perhaps it's because the defense was tired, but it's no matter.

Exactly...i figure if you have 2 good QBs it allows you to perform at a higher level in the 2nd half of the game, plus it can somewhat negate the effects of demoralization caused by sacks, ints etc.

My team ran 1 QB only due to not being able to find a decent QB willing to play backup, but if i had the option i would have been running two. Thus back to my original question...is ensuring max play time for your QB the only reason most of the top pro teams seem to only run 1 QB?

The answer to your question is actually contained in your own post above. It's kind of subtle, so look closely, I've went ahead and bolded it for you in case you still can't find it.

If you've got a good QB, chances are you don't want to play backup - even at the USA Pro level.

The guy who was supposed to be his backup is currently smoking the cack in Canada AA #1. True story, we randomly came across him as he plays in the same league as my TE. He's the one who sucks really bad. Probably a good thing Drago murdered him.
