I started to think about it and teams are only going to carry one of each so it's probably pretty hard to get one signed. I made one of each and they are just finishing their first season, but I'm not sure it's worth the energy to bother with them. Should I wait a few weeks and if they don't get signed retire them?

I'd wait until the offseason. If you can get them jobs on decent seeming teams, keep them. If nobody's interested, retire now. Save the boosts until after you sign with a capped team.

You need to find a friend who is starting a team if you want to make a kicker or a punter. You might consider making one every season and retiring him if you can't get a job.

That last one isn't a terrible idea, actually, if you really want to play one. You'll always be ready for a capped league.

I honestly made them cause they're cheap and easy to build.

The trick is finding an owner you know who needs one. You'll never get signed out of free agency, really.

Don't boost until you've secured a home, obv

retire them. It's not worth being a punter/kicker in this game. Especially punter. I'm retiring mine this offseason. The way exp is given out is an absolute joke.

Good advice there.

I got both my kicker and punter signed out of FA. I trolled the Teams looking for players board and PMed any owner who posted that might be remotely interested. It took a lot of PMs, but I took the first offer I could get. Luckily I found two good teams, but regardless as long as you're playing you'll be fine. Once you get to a certain level you'll prolly always be able to find work.

When I had a punter, I got him a job because my DT was already on the team.

Problem is, team went CPU midway through the season, and none of my other teams needed a punter the next offseason.

So, if you have players on other teams, check when the P/K contracts run out, then PM the owner.

What rubbish some of the above is. I have ten Kickers - all are signed to teams (and none were through friends with teams). Most are on competitive - i.e. reach the playoffs - teams.
It takes a bit of hard work on the Forums - but you can generally get signed up at some point.

Things worked out perfectly for my kicker, and if you can work this out for yourself than it's certanly worth it:

I packaged him with my corner. Corners are in such high demand that you'll get dozens of PM's trying to sign him. One (or more likely a third) of those teams don't have a kicker yet. Boom, you got your kicker on a team.

Now in order to maximize your xperience points for a kicker or punter, get yourself on a team that sucks. I mean really bad. Like losing 255-0 bad. On a team that bad, it really doesn't matter how the special teams kick return depth chart looks. So see if you can get your kicker on special teams returns, which should give you a decent amount of XPoints if your team is giving up 20 touchdowns a game. Obviously you don't want to be on a suck team forever, but you'll get from level 13 to level 20 much faster.

if I had a capped league, I would be signing those stud CPUs at K and P.

Do what I do. Make yourself a punter, get him on a crummy, slow-building team, and convince the owner to let your punter play at times he normally wouldn't to get more XP. It's hilarious watching my punter make the last diving tackle on a kick return, or trying to block a big linebacker in kickoff coverage. But he's getting his XP.
