Maybe this is a dumb question, but what's RPI?

I'm not sure, but I think the "R" stands for random.

Ratings percentage index. They do it for NCAA basketball. Basically it takes team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%), and comes up with a number from that formula. This is a system used to eliminate strength of schedule arguments. It's only a few games into the season so it might be too early to use it, but I'm sure many will agree that these rankings are what we can expect for end of year results. I like this one because I just can't get over SBSpartants being ranked outside the top 10 at the beginning of the year after having the best record in Pro last year

If this consoles you, good for you. For my money, I would recommend a fine scotch.

It makes sense to use this in college basketball, since there are wildly different schedules. But it makes zero sense here. With the exception of one game, the teams being compared play the exact same schedule.

It will make less sense as the season gets to the end....but it only factors the games you have played so far...so no schedule is the same....yet

Exactly, at this time an RPI type standings is actually more accurate then the "record" ones.

Keep in mind that is takes out games you've played win your opponents win %...

For example...Dallas is 0-4...if you take the opponents records they are 3-1, 3-1, 2-2, 3-1...but you don't count the games Dallas played them...so in essence they are 2-1, 2-1, 1-2, 2-1....but you also don't just add up the wins and losses(7-5..583) to calculate the win%...you actually use the average of them all(.667, .667, .333, .667 = .585)..which isn't far off, but it's the way it's calculated....

You really think so? It looks less accurate to me. Seems like we (the Bullies) are getting a lot of credit for getting our asses kicked twice. There's no way we deserve to be that high.

Maybe if the margin of victory/loss was included somehow...

Ya, esp. since Min smoked the Saints.

I'm not going to complain about a #1 ranking, but I don't know about us being ahead of Boston or Washington. I guess the fact that our opponents are 12-4 this year gives us the edge, but still...
