For those of you new to the Pro rankings, I like to base my rankings on two main criteria: Playoff performance, and Strength of Schedule. Unfortunately for the youngins, my results are based somewhat off past Pro performances. As I stated in the preseason rankings, you will all have your shot at moving up the rankings, provided you kick ass on the field.
1) Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon (2-0)- As I'm sure most of you figured, they will be here until they get knocked off. They demolished a Gamblers squad from Alpha who can play with some of the past playoff contenders in that conference, and easily handled a South Austin squad putting up 51 against a stout defense. They don't look like they are going anywhere for a long time. They have two tough matchups in HK Highlanders and HCMHM the next two weeks, and if they can pull off victories they should be primed for a solid 7-0 start. Watch out Zeta.
2) Taiwan Blood Pandas (2-0)- A solid thumping of the Gothic, followed by a shutout victory against an relatively unknown Buddhas team. They look to repeat (or best) their 15-1 season from last year and are off to a great start with one of the stingiest defenses in the league. They get their rematch with the team who handed them their sole regular season defeat last year, Krakatoan in week 4. They can't look past an always dangerous Tweetys team this week, however. JT83 will have his guys ready to stuff bamboo up the hoohaaas of anyone who gets in their way.
3) Hong Kong Highlanders (2-0)- Coming off a great win over a revamped Ho Chi team, the leagues original HKH is in a frenzy with their ground game. HB Caelite Rick is off to a great start with 7 TD's in two games behind a massive O-line featuring Fat Bastard and Bob The Builder. They have a test against the #1 team this week which could very well move them up to the top with a solid victory. Only time will tell.
4) Krakatoan Red Warriors (2-0)- I want to say that this team had the hardest opening two game schedule, because I believe the Hustlers are a playoff team. Krak proves once again in the 4th quarter that they are never out of any game, coming back to win for the second week in a row. We'll see if M*A*S*H did any more work this offseason and can be competitive, but all eyes are on the week 4 showdown with the Pandas. CB Larry Stickems has a pick six INT in each of the first two games, and MLB Ty Ranasaurus has already piled up 22 tackles and 1 FFum. This defense is playing like it has something to prove after some of the losses last season giving up far too many points.
5) Bangkok Tweetys (2-0)- This team hasn't played much yet, but have already showed off a prolific passing attack in its two opening games. This team wouldn't be ranked this high without a solid playoff history, but are capable of beating ANYONE in Zeta. They really get to cut their teeth in the coming 5 weeks with a brutal schedule that includes Taiwan, their crosstown rival Buddhas, Ho Chi, Krak & LSP. We'll see how this team lines up after what promises to be some hard fought gridiron classics.
6) Louisiana Screaming Pelicans (2-0)- Another team that really hasn't seen what the Pros have to offer yet, but AAA #2 regular season champs from a year ago have won games they should win. They have a match with the Hustlers up next, in what promises to be the game of the week in Zeta. QB Chad Williams has already notched 10 TD's in gimme games, and is ready to see how he stacks up against the rest of the league.
7) Ho Chi Mean Hot Mamas (1-1)- Everyone is waiting to see how this team will cope with the huge chemistry issues after being revamped in the offseason. A tough loss against a solid HK Highlanders squad this week, but possibly some relief (?) this week against the up and coming Buddhas, followed by a shot at redemption against the team that knocked them out of last year's playoffs in the conf. champ, NACJAC. BigRatUno's bitches are not to be trifled with.
8) Hong Kong Hustlers (1-1)- After beating a decent Alpha Jeanhorns team, they have to endure a heartbreaking loss to the perennial contender Red Warriors. This team is legit, however they will need to get it together fast because they have a chance at redemption against LSP this week. They are sure to solidify their place in the pros with a win this week. As stated earlier, I believe this team has playoff potential. edit: i've just decided, for sake of distinction and with permission, to refer to this team as strictly 'The Hustle' for the remainder of the season so I can abbreviate HKH still
9) Kentucky Colonels (2-0)- I know, how can I rank a 2-0 team below so many 1-loss teams. Well, as stated above, strength of schedule plays a big role in my mind and this team has yet to record a quality win. They play the #10 team this week in what should be an interesting game to say the least. Is this the year Kentucky can make the leap into playoff contention?
10) Manila Warlords (1-1)- This team is undergoing somewhat of a transition period with new ownership. But despite my oversight in the preseason rankings, this team has a litany of new players ready to make an impact in this competitive conference. Unfortunately, having a fairly soft opening schedule will hold this team back until they prove they can beat some of the top ten teams starting next week vs. Kentucky, and week 7 against Taiwan.
