Defensive AI is a lot better if you use it correctly.
And by correctly, I mean not using it too much. Just use it for certain situations rather than trying to design an entire playbook, which many like to do.

If you know what you're doing, there's nothing wrong with setting up every situation.

Yeah if you know what to do the advanced AIs are definitely better. If you don't stick with the basic settings. But yeah sometimes less is really more.

This.
The first 10 inputs, will help the most. Everytime you add another after that, there is a diminishing return for your efforts. However it is still a return so, if you got the time it will be better.
The one draw back with too many input is you might have a problem with input/output errors. Sometimes an error can really screw up the whole AI. The Defense AI helps but it is so damn tedious.

You can run a pretty good offense using the basic tactics if you wish, but the advanced defensive AI is far superior to the basic D AI because of the ability to react to formations, set the coverages yourself and select the blitz scheme.

Agree
Using the D AI should save you at least one yard per play, probably 2-3.
I don't think you can be competive without using the Advanced D AI.
But I agree you can get 90% there with about 10 inputs/15-20 outputs.
It isn't that tedious or difficult if you stick to that.
