How large of a penalty would their be? I just think it would be great for a LB to have change direction and super vision.

I think it is only a minor penalty.
I have one who just joined a friend's team as an experiment (he has more vision than most),but he is way too low level to contribute as of yet.
I think by the end of the season he will be able to contribute some to the team and If he was equivalent level to the competition he would definitely be noticeable by then.
