We basically have 3 kinds of running backs. You have the elusive, power, and combo. Everyone knows the basics of these 3. Elusive you have agility, speed, vision, and carrying. Power you have strength, carrying, speed, and agility. Then combo is a little bit of both. My question is what seperates a back from another back of the same level. What makes a back a 3000 yard 50+ TD machine when another back of the same level runs for 1500 and 20 TD's. I have heard a few things. One being confidence another being carrying. I personally think its vision. So I would like to discuss what everyone thinks the "X Factor" is? What seperates a average back from a stud?

O line and the competition they are playing against. Also a good FB and Wr's that can block help a lot.

I've seen so many other HBs with worse builds than my HB perform much better due to their decent linemen.

Indeed. It's not even about the h.b at all usually. A great half back is without a doubt the product of the team around them, and the competition they face.

Well, of course there is the team....but let's assume that's equally

but, it's all about a tightly focused build that has "balance". It doesn't sound like those two go together, but they do.

For example, most power backs really focus to much on the POWER aspects of a back and forget that a 50+ agility score and some quick cut can go a really long way to making a back more productive.

Ditto for elusive backs who when running outside forget that a bit more strength can blow over a safety/corner or help you hang onto the ball when a mean LB comes to smack you up! Cover Up is your friend!

So, the X-Factor is knowing where a Power back needs to add a bit of elusiveness and a Speed back needs to add some power. That is not to say these guys are in any way combo or balanced backs...it's just that X-factor.

It's a bit easier to think in terms of WR's, all the speed won't help if you can't catch the ball and all the catching won't help if you can't get open. There is a "sweet spot" in both builds where with a small investment you can greatly improve your back.

So you think the X-factor in a elusive back would be strength?.....Interesting.

i think the x-factor in every build, is what order you raise the attributes to the first soft cap and what you chose to bring to the second soft cap. I made a beast of a power back last season, but the complete plan is a combo power back, sort of like Adrian Peterson.

I brought strength to 48 first. Agility second, and speed will be 48 after I level. I'm going to raise Speed for now on all the way to the third soft cap, while keeping all my equipment in strength and if strength isn't to the second soft cap by then I get it their then start sticking in SAs.

I think my speed as a power back is going to be the X factor, and getting natural points in agility soon will be a key reason as I'm only using it for accelerating, it will move up fast enough so I won't have an acceleration problem. Also having a nice piece of AEQ that gives my +1 the FS (about to be +2) doesn't hurt.
