Is Strength even really necessary for QBs? Throwing increases pass distance, so if your Throwing is high enough, then strength almost seems unnecessary unless you throw deep more than 30% or so of the time.

Str does a lot more than that, my friend.

Well - from this very thread:
Jenova Cell: Level 31, Throwing = 92.37, QB Rating = 93.7
Dwight Schrutte: Level 28, Throwing = 95.09, QB Rating = 62.9
Max Fire: Level 20, Throwing = 84, QB Rating = 78.9
Jason Jefferson: Level 10, Throwing = 81.6, QB Rating = 83.5
Hit Me Terry Tate: Level 27, Throwing = 76.8, QB Rating = 127.3
Now - let's sort by Throwing:
Throwing = 95.09, QB Rating = 62.9
Throwing = 92.37, QB Rating = 93.7
Throwing = 84.00, QB Rating = 78.9
Throwing = 81.60, QB Rating = 83.5
Throwing = 76.80, QB Rating = 127.3
I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
79 throwing
Level Pss Yds Yds/Game TD QB Rating

Just to mix things up....
My qb has between 80 and 90 and last year was rated at 142.3
Just thought I'd throw the wrench in the theory.

BTW...my own personal theory is that it depends on your WRs.
If your WRs are fast go STR to get those deep routes, they won't be open short.
If your WRs are agile go vision, the WRs will get open.
If your WRs have good hands go throwing. You need to thread the needle cuz they won't be open.

Jakemall has got it right. Throwing is more important in some offensive systems compared to others. Your build should reflect the team around you.
"Is Strength even really necessary for QBs? Throwing increases pass distance, so if your Throwing is high enough, then strength almost seems unnecessary unless you throw deep more than 30% or so of the time."
Strength also plays a huge role on how fast it gets to your receiver.

This is the major problem with the advice most people give or receive about QBs. Our position is just too dependent on the team around us to know exactly what the best build is.
