Mainly becuase some of the best defensive players are on the top teams and with all the 3 & outs they get the dont get the chance to get the massive ammounts of tackles or fumbles or INT's...

You're right, if your d is good, there aren't many stats to go around.

You cant judge how good a player is by their "stats"... you have to take in to effect the build. So i would say that a commitee is assembled to nominate players for pro bowl/mvp and then the voting process is calculated that way.. maybe somewhere else other than these forums so its easier to see the results...
