I'm thinking about making a HB with high speed and strength/carrying that would work as a "downhill" runner. I know agility functions as acceleration also, so does that mean I should spend at least a decent amount of points in it even if I just want my HB to go north/south? Also, how much does carrying help break tackles? If it does help I'll probably soft cap that after strength and speed because that in addition to less fumbles seems like a good idea.

That's basically a power back.

Pretty much, or at least it's what most of us who've adapted have done.

To answer the OP's questions, you need some agility, but I'd keep your spd:agi around 3:2 and he will still accelerate very quickly. You'll notice on a lot of the running plays the HB already has 2-3 steps by the time the ball's handed off, so he's pretty much up to speed at that point. Carrying doesn't make a whole lot of a difference in breaking tackles, at least not enough to really invest enough points to get it to the cap quickly.

If you're starting fresh I'd recommend getting speed and strength to the second cap while training agility and carrying, it'll pay off more in the long run.

alright thanks for the help. I know this sounded like a power back to me, but some people on here have given me the impression that a power back is all strength with little speed and agility. Sorry if the way I worded it confused you, but thanks again for the help.

What the hell is a "downhill runner"?

I've heard it before, but isn't the field flat?

Downhill runner = more of a north to south kind of guy rather than running to the outside.

Wait...Nightmaresabin? D'oh why do I even bother answering your questions?!?

It's uphill both ways, in the snow, with no mittens.
